i ask bc i went to her partner for many years (Lissa Hirsch) and many of my friends see her too and all love her. i never actually saw Galasso but occasionally spoke o her on the phone when she was on call and she seemed really nice. You have to follow your gut on this stuff. If you trust your ped and feel totally comfortable with the fact that he isn't concerned, that's totally fine, but it sounds like you are questioning him. You are ultimately the one who knows your own kid best. EI eval is a win-win. Either you find out there is no reason to worry or your kid gets early help. [ Reply | More ]

I agree w/ switching back later idea. We are going with 166. We chose it for: 1) concerns that with mixed ability class and inclusion classes at 87 that our child might be bored and therefore disruptive, 2) smaller school (7 Ks at 87), after school program with more sports offerings (we have a boy) , 3) peer group 4) people we know at 166 love it (most love 87 but we have had friends with a very smart child who were dissatisfied) 5) If we decide to apply out to private in a couple of years we have been told that privates look more favorably on gifted programs. We know we are giving up a stronger principal at 87 and a more unified community, but want to try 166. Because we are zoned for 87 we feel it will always be there for us if we don't like 166. Not when there are 7 different kindergartens. By 2nd or 3rd grade they will only have spent time with maybe one third of them. I think kids are adaptable at that age.
