[ - ] I would love to quit my job and become a full-time do-gooder. I could work at a community center or something - I'm sure I must have skills that they could put to use. Can't say for sure, though, since I've never actually done any volunteer work or anything. Is it possible to turn a corporate type into a do-gooder? 7 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

I guess that's my fear. But I was just looking on the website of a community center and it looked so cheerful and positive. Contrast with life in corporate america - office doldrums, no impact on lives of real people, etc. Becoming a mom has made me want to do something more important. [ Reply | More ]

That makes no sense - I don't think you can get 98 V and 98 P and 97 overall. What were the verbal and performance scores? The overall is the last score on page 2 - at the bottom, where it adds up the scaled scores and gives an overall percentile. Anyway - those are great scores, and your DC definitely has a shot at TT. That was the score - I know it doesn't make sense to me, too. It says 98V, 98P and 97 overall. Can somebody explain? Maybe DC is older(4.8 yr.), it scaled lower? [ Reply | More ]

I'd call the ERB office. Mine was close to that age and scores weren't like that - although a month or two can make a difference. It doesn't really matter - those are great scores and if you apply broadly dc should be fine. GL [ Reply | More ]

The only thing I can think of is that both 98s were low 98s and that when the scaled scores were added, they were at the tippy top of the 97th percentile for total scaled score. But anyway - it doesn't matter. Your child did great and will be in the running everywhere. [ Reply | More ]

No, you can't - especially since the verbal is weighted much more heavily - for instance one can get in the 80s for performance and get a 98/99 on verbal and end up with a 97/98. That said, OP's dc could certainly get into a TT with anything 95+ (and sometimes lower) [ Reply | More ]

OR here - not that this matters, because OP's kid did wonderfully, but yeah - it makes no sense. My daughter got a 99V and a 96P last year and got a 99 overall, so I don't see how you could get a 98 on both and a 97 overall. [ Reply | More ]

that's bec your dd prob'ly got 19 on verbal subtests. Only need 15 or 16 to get 99 on each section so if your score is very high, it will help overall score. OP's kid probly did not get 19 or 18 on subtests. [ Reply | More ]

BSC generally only want 95+ and CSH generally has their pick of girls as well. Perhaps MM and Hewitt, if you 1st choice before Jan 15th and dd has a good visit and pre-school backs your choice. But it would be rare for either to look at a dd with scores below 80. Have dd take the SB as well and if ti is above 93 or so, submit it to the schools. [ Reply | More ]

I think conventional wisdom would say 95+ - great score, gives your dc a chance at any school (but of course, actually getting in depends on other factors) low 90's - good to very good score, your dc could end up anywhere, but for some of the more "academic" schools, other parts of the application may have to stand out just that much more. 80's - depends on the kid and the school. Not a problem for some dc's, but can be an issue for others. You'd probably want to apply fairly broadly. 70's and lower - realistically, it will be very challenging unless there are other factors involved. (Usually $$$ or connections). [ Reply | More ]

Well, no, but I started right afterward and actually ovulated on day 6 or 9 or something like that -- way earlier than I'd expected. Also, once I'd just stopped breastfeeding and hadn't even had a period yet, so I was really in the dark about whether I even had my cycle back yet. So, I'd say start right afterward. wondering that myself. I think it takes a few months, but the trick to getting them to go 4 hours in the middle of the night is to feed them on a consistent schedule during the day. We had our dd going for one or two 4 hour stretches at night until she began rejecting her formula. we can set our clocks by her-she's very punctual!
