I would love to quit my job and become a full-time do-gooder. I could work at a community center or something - I'm sure I must have skills that they could put to use. Can't say for sure, though, since I've never actually done any volunteer work or anything. Is it possible to turn a corporate type into a do-gooder? [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

I guess that's my fear. But I was just looking on the website of a community center and it looked so cheerful and positive. Contrast with life in corporate america - office doldrums, no impact on lives of real people, etc. Becoming a mom has made me want to do something more important. [ Reply | More

Are you in NY? Try New York Cares to find volunteer projects to get a sense of what is out there. If you're good, a community center would love to have you. But every job has its downsides, even the do-gooding ones. [ Reply | More
