[ - ] I used to think I was quite an exciting person with lots of fun friends. Now I feel seriously lacking in conversation...I stalled big-time at a party tonight. I can't think of interesting things to say...can't be bothered to chat to people. What is wrong with me? Am I just getting old? 14 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

I can't say for sure without being in that situation, but of any cheating scenario, this sounds like the one that I could most feasibly get past. There was a woman on earlier whose husband had an 18 month affair and the woman was pregnant. That would be entirely different! [ Reply | More ]

Is the affair on-going? is it over? when did it end? how much risk with my health did he take? bareback with a hooker? or condoms with a long-term girlfriend? how much grovelling is he willing to do? I might forgive a one-night stand, but giving me an STD or having DCs with other women - forgiveness may never come. [ Reply | More ]

In my particular financial situation, I would rather live up by Columbia with no car and do Anderson, then move to the suburb (I'd find a job outside the city though), lastly Riverdale. I wouldn't move to the burbs for any reason. Yuk. Plus, you'd actually be driving (or putting your child on the bus) for a longer commute, most likely in the burbs. I live in the city, but have you ever been to a suburb or did you just watch some movie about a CT town? For instance, South Orange/Maplewood has some same-sex parent households and black husbands AND wives; the Princeton area has tons of Asian Indian families; Other towns have a lot of Asian families (Scarsdale); Mamaroneck has Hispanic families. Anyway, it's not like Anderson is a thriving example of diversity, it's all *smart* kids. (And great for OP that her child got in, I would send my child in a heartbeat). [ Reply | More ]

Everyone I know in the better Westchester burbs (except for Hastings which is more hippy dippy) is now sending their kids to private schools for middle school and high school because the say the education stinks in public and worse, the general attitude of the kids is "party on, dude" rather than being with motivated students like you'll find at the good NYC public middle schools and selective high schools. Several have moved back because there are so few private options even with a long commute in Westchester. [ Reply | More ]

^^ They've had the same problems we face in NYC - unwillingness or budget constraints to include foreign language in elementary so it's run by the PTA as an a.m. or p.m. program, even more ridiculous school board politics, paying for most enrichments, PLUS you pay huge school taxes and a lack of high quality teachers that the schools can retain, regardless of the higher salaries they pay. Oh, pullease! I am black and live in Westchester and I have met and befriended several high achieving black women and their families. I actually find the city to be far more homogenous than the burbs. Having lived on the UWS, I found that the only people of color I encountered with the exception of a college friend worked on the UWS (often as nannies) and then retreated to the outer boroughs come night. The diversity of the City is the biggest myth! [ Reply | More ]

I'm an Anderson mom with older kids. Looks like there are about 3 in the current K and 0-2 per year in the older grades. The new system definitely encouraged people from farther away to apply--until last year, you had to know about A. and apply to it specifically, but starting last year it was a choice on the form that everyone applying to any G&T filled out. (I don't think A. looked at geography at all in the onsites; I just don't think many people from other boroughs applied before last year.) [ Reply | More ]

Thank you very much! That's very intersting - I hadn't known about the difference in the G&T form itself and the prior need to apply to Anderson specifically. By the way, [ Reply | More ]

. . . any chance you know how the 3 current queens kids get to school? Is there currently a chartered bus? [ Reply | More ]

I have no idea because they are K kids who I don't know--I was just looking at the school list. I suggest that at registration or the picnic (or whatever they're having), ask if they can put you in touch with those families. [ Reply | More ]

You can't be talking about the incoming class because even the school doesn't know their addresses. You're talking about the current class that's finishing K. All of those Queens families commute their kids - some on the train and some by car. One, I think carpools with another family in Brooklyn who's on the way in. [ Reply | More ]

[ - ] Any doctors real or armchair who could think up a diagnosis for a man I know: He seems to have one, quite large testicle instead of two. His belly button is an innie, but it's the shallowest innie I've ever seen, just a slight indentation instead of a "hole." I was joking about stealing his kidney and he responded that he's the last one anyone would want as a donor. He's had a vasectomy but has no kids and I sense there may be some sort of genetic issue. Any ideas? 7 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

op: I know, but if everyone on UB minded their own biz, there would be no posts! This is a new BF and I don't feel comfortable asking yet but would like to know what I'm dealing with here. [ Reply | More ]

The one ball thing is not that uncommon, but I don't know about the rest. [ Reply | More ]

maybe he had testicular cancer, had one removed? or lost one in a tragic basketball/pencil accident (per While You Were Sleeping). [ Reply | More ]

If it weren't for the vasectomy and no kids, I'd think you were talking about my DH. [ Reply | More ]

My old boyfriend had one testicle - the remaining one does get larger as a result. He may have had a very bad hernia that required surgery. [ Reply | More ]

does hernia have to do with belly button or testicle? [ Reply | More ]
