Current Anderson moms: Are there many kids from Queens at Anderson? It sound like maybe 10% (5 kids) this year may be from Queens, which is pretty high. I wonder if the new G&T testing program encouraged more people from outer boroughs to take the test and ultimately place into Anderson (or, alternatively, I wonder if Anderson used geography in the selection procedure in the past in a way that negatively impacted Queens kids) [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

I'm an Anderson mom with older kids. Looks like there are about 3 in the current K and 0-2 per year in the older grades. The new system definitely encouraged people from farther away to apply--until last year, you had to know about A. and apply to it specifically, but starting last year it was a choice on the form that everyone applying to any G&T filled out. (I don't think A. looked at geography at all in the onsites; I just don't think many people from other boroughs applied before last year.) [ Reply | More

I have no idea because they are K kids who I don't know--I was just looking at the school list. I suggest that at registration or the picnic (or whatever they're having), ask if they can put you in touch with those families. [ Reply | More

You can't be talking about the incoming class because even the school doesn't know their addresses. You're talking about the current class that's finishing K. All of those Queens families commute their kids - some on the train and some by car. One, I think carpools with another family in Brooklyn who's on the way in. [ Reply | More
