yes you can. I mixed the whole milk with formula bit by bit. 1/4 milk and 3/4 formula the first day..the next day half and half, ect. This worked. When I tried going cold turkey with #1 she didn't like the taste so this is when I did the mixing thing [ Reply | More ]

from west to east, enter the park near AMNH, go across to the Great Lawn, down the west side of the lawn, past the Delacourt, through the Shakeaspeare Garden and up to Belvedere Castle. Down the back of the castle into the Ramble and through the Ramble to the Boathouse, under the Drive and out past the Model Boat Pond. Not the most direct route, but very pretty. [ Reply | More ]

1) If you trade him in do you really think you will be better off? No, you will just have different issues -- and a lot less money. 2) The quality of your life is about YOU - your work, health, relationships, spirituality, etc. and most importantly how you give to others. This group is very judgemental. Regardless of how OP got into this marriage, the fact is that she has to make choices for her children and herself based on the current reality. So her marriage is unfulfilling - as if all of you are superior for having discovered the secret to true love and marital bliss. OP, you need to take an analytical look at your choices. Talk to an attorney if you think you want to leave the relationship. You will learn what reality could look like (and NY state does not do a great job protecting women and their children, although in your case there could be enough money that you would be fine.) If you want to stay, then it is up to you to find your own happiness and center. So your marriage isn't good -- that doesn't define you, nor does it destin you or your kids to failure, despite some of the opinions here. Take steps to help yourself and your kids so that whatever route you choose, your emotional happiness will not be tied to this man. and the hell with these people. [ Reply | More ]

I don't really know how much it needs it. I guess all schools think they need more, right? It's a tough decision to make. I was leaning toward $7,500 [ Reply | More ]

OR: Oh, I thought you were giving $500, but you mean the foundation is a separate entity. Yes, $7500 would be very generous. I can only imagine what a boon that would be to a school like 110, where my kids went to pre-K, which doesn't have a giant fundraising machine. [ Reply | More ]

Well, it's easy to be generous with somebody else's money :) But I'm having a hard time thinking this through ethically. It's like writing the check to my crazy rich college each year - I always wonder if it's the right choice. Of course, no public is wealthy like the top colleges are, but still...I could give to anything, and I wonder if a school serving largely the middle and upper middle class is the right choice over, say, the NYT Neediest Case Fund or the Doe Fund, two of my favorites. Perhaps you could give it to a public school that needs it more, to help with parity. There are dozens. [ Reply | More ]

Based on what you've said, I'd go for around 1/3 - 1/2. Your dc's school, especially if public, is a wonderful institution that can really use your money, but there are also other great things out there that are worth supporting. I'd pick two to three things you believe passionately in (one of those being your dc's school) and split the money among them. [ Reply | More ]

Honestly, $0. The schools are so poorly run that I feel that very little of the donation would be put to good use. I would rather give to a small, well run charity with good transparency into how the donations are spent. [ Reply | More ]

Do you actually have kids at public school? If you did you'd never spout such crock. [ Reply | More ]

that too bad you feel that way. People at our school put up and support proposals for the money we raise and then everyone votes for which proposals they care the most about. We're adding some personnel and continuing to fund our specials plus adding some extra teacher training. [ Reply | More ]

I think that I would look at from a different point of view. I would wait until a specific project needing funding - lets say the copier broke down and they needed to buy a new one, or the carpet in the library was dreadful and they needed to replace it and I would fund that project. I would always keep my ear to the ground for opportunity and always do it anon. [ Reply | More ]

May I humbly suggest that you donate to Insideschools.org? It's the only independent voice serving ALL families that care about public schools, rich, poor, in-between, runs on a shoestring (no $s from the DOE, which seems sort of scared of us, because we try to tell the truth). Our seed $s from big foundations ends this month so we really need support from family foundations and individuals to keep doing what we do. And UBers, please don't call me Spamela, I'm a parent who has been on this board for years trying to help others, and I took a huge pay cut to work for Insideschools, which really needs help. THANKS! Insideschools.org is really tough spot right now re: funding. We are especially looking for parents willing to open their homes for "friendraisers" this fall, when we will be launching the new improved Insideschools.org. We're also looking for people to test drive the new site. [ Reply | More ]

I would give most to my own public school. And then I would go to donorschoose.org and choose a project (or 2 or 3 or more) to fund. [ Reply | More ]
