Truthfully, what's a "my kid bombed the ERB " score so why bother applying to private? [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

np; please don't listen to this person. They obviously don't know what they speak of. My dc got an 87 and got into 3 schools and Wl at another 3. Dc wasn't a sib or a leg. The ERB's are not the end all. The school report and dc visit carries more [ Reply | More ]

OP-thank you. I'm very new to this process and all people talk about is how their kids got 96 + on the test. [ Reply | More ]

not true...admitted to three schools with an 84...not top tier, but good schools, nonetheless. [ Reply | More ]

Below 80, I think. Scores in the 80s still give the kid a shot at a bunch of schools. I know an 86 who got into Ethical. [ Reply | More ]

Marymount might take a lower score, as might Hewitt, but not the others. [ Reply | More ]

BSC generally only want 95+ and CSH generally has their pick of girls as well. Perhaps MM and Hewitt, if you 1st choice before Jan 15th and dd has a good visit and pre-school backs your choice. But it would be rare for either to look at a dd with scores below 80. Have dd take the SB as well and if ti is above 93 or so, submit it to the schools. [ Reply | More ]

I think conventional wisdom would say 95+ - great score, gives your dc a chance at any school (but of course, actually getting in depends on other factors) low 90's - good to very good score, your dc could end up anywhere, but for some of the more "academic" schools, other parts of the application may have to stand out just that much more. 80's - depends on the kid and the school. Not a problem for some dc's, but can be an issue for others. You'd probably want to apply fairly broadly. 70's and lower - realistically, it will be very challenging unless there are other factors involved. (Usually $$$ or connections). [ Reply | More ]
