so dc got a G&T 1st grade placement at her current school. i know many of the parents in the g&t class. now i am hearing through the grapevine nasty remarks and a real unfriendliness to the idea of my dd joining the class. (there have never been problems before -- it's like they just don't want their club to accept any new members) [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

Can't you switch her back if she's unhappy? If it's PS116, I have to say that a friend who's there said that there were some challenging DDs in this year's G&T K class. [ Reply | More

I agree w/ switching back later idea. However, I had same experience as a ps kid when I got switched into what was then called Intellectually Gifted Children class -- the kids and parents were a nightmare and it was the worst year of my life! Just saying this because your impression re snottiness may be correct. On the other hand, it could be a great opportunity, so why not explore it? [ Reply | More

Don't listen to the grapevine, which may well be fueled by other gen ed parents jealous of your leaving. If you think dc would do well in the G&T class, switch. I can't imagine why parents would care whether the new kids are from the gen ed program at the school or elsewhere. [ Reply | More
