how do you know whether dc needs speech therapy? my 2nd dc is 18 mos and has very few words-ped wasn't concerned, but he seems different verbally from my older ds and from other kids we know. not sure if I need to be concerned or just wait it out. dc seems to get what we are saying and can point, follow directsions, etc, but he doesn't speak. tia for any advice [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

You have to follow your gut on this stuff. If you trust your ped and feel totally comfortable with the fact that he isn't concerned, that's totally fine, but it sounds like you are questioning him. You are ultimately the one who knows your own kid best. EI eval is a win-win. Either you find out there is no reason to worry or your kid gets early help. [ Reply | More ]
