[ - ] my ds is moving from CTT 1st grade to a gen ed 2nd grade; there are two 2nd grades and one of them has the former gen ed teacher for the 2nd grade CTT class as its teacher so i thought that would be a perfect fit for him but the school put him in the other class ... he will continue w/OT,PT, & speech and I thought the other teacher - being familiar w/CTT kids would have a better understanding of where my son is coming from -- both literally & figuratively; Should I make a stink about this? I don't know much about the other teacher except that he is new to the school entirely and I think he's only been teaching for three years or so ... 3 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

both teachers would be new to him and both are gen ed classrooms with gen ed teachers -- so the one teacher - though coming from a CTT classroom - wouldn't necessarily have anymore of a style he's accustomed to than the other teacher. [ Reply | More ]

This is like the people who won't say they went to HArward or Yale because they think it's bragging. They say they went to a little school in Cambridge (or Conn.), which is more obnoxious than just stating your school and not thinking anything of it. Just say the school like you're saying any other local school. Your kid is smart, but not any smarter than hundreds of other kids who also scored a 99 (or many of those who scored lower on that stupid test or didn't take it at all). Signed fellow future A mom. Curiousity is often simply that but is sometimes a window you've never opened. Is this desire purely sexual or do you feel a need to connect more intimately with a woman in ways beyond sexual contexts? It's very healthy to explore your desires, yet the idea of approaching it through venues like the internet or answering often phony 'personals' sounds pretty dodgy. [ Reply | More ]

So what you're saying is that because you're a wonderful person, your child got the best school? What a horribly entitled, back-patting thing to say. [ Reply | More ]

op: Nope, not at all. I am just saying that through the whole process I was a "nice" person true from my heart. i did all I could do to help friends and truly wished evryone I know luck. [ Reply | More ]

Well, me too - shared everything I knew about the process with everyone who asked - and we weren't as lucky as you. Can you explain that one? [ Reply | More ]

np: You don't seem very nice, honestly. Right now you seem insufferable and smug. People always want to believe that they deserve their good fortune and that others deserve to suffer. Just as people always underestimate the pain of others. It's not a pretty instinct. [ Reply | More ]

I know this is really corny, but I really think some of our greatest gifts are unanswered prayers. Sometimes we never know why things work out the way that they do. Something tells me you're going to be thrilled with your school. [ Reply | More ]

Look, I'm sure things will work out for us, and in the grand scheme of things we are, of course, lucky...but there is truly nothing more annoying than being lectured about karma by someone who got exactly what she wanted, and is crediting it to being such a great person. [ Reply | More ]

Only the upper middle class could believe in instant karma. Get out and see the world and then tell me that people who suffer got what was coming to them. [ Reply | More ]

Yes, but bad things happen to good people, too. Look at all the locallly built schools in China that collapsed while the hotels and private schools on either side didn't have a crack. [ Reply | More ]

But wouldn't school placement be the child's karma not the parents? Is it the kids you feel got their comeuppance? [ Reply | More ]

Then you're misdefining karma. Karma is an individual problem--ie, if the parent behaved badly, the parent would reap the bad karma. If the child is going to have a bad school year because of the parents' behavior, that's not karma. A person can only incur their own karma. [ Reply | More ]

So why did so many nasty people get good schools, and so many nice people get shut out? You have a weird definition of karma. [ Reply | More ]
