[ - ] I live in NY, just had a baby 5 days ago and I have a 5yo dd. My FIL is very ill and living in California. He is being honored on the Fourth of July for his time in the military during a celebration in the town. Is it beyond crazy to think that dh and I, along with both dc can go? I realize that my youngest probably shouldn't be in an airplane at the age, but for a special circumstance do you think it is still out of the question? 4 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

probably best for baby to stay home. can you manage w/o DB for that long? [ Reply | More ]

Our ds flew 5 times before he was 3mo, starting after 4wks. It is not ideal and you have to be super careful to keep db from germs and keeping your hands clean etc... but you can do it. You also have a 5yo who will expose your db to germs earlier than a baby w/o siblings so just do what you can - if this is a very special occasion (and your ped gives the ok!), go! Have fun! [ - ] My MIL was babysitting my dc for the weekend (dh and I are divorced and on excellent terms), and she told them that I wasn't the best mother and she told them about everything she thought I did wrong and basically told them not to listen to me. My oldest told me everything on the ride home. I put the kids to bed and I sat in my room filled with anger, then I started crying. Am I overreacting? Should I call dh? Should I confront MIL? I am so shocked over this. I always had problems with her, but for her to try and pin my children against me is below the belt. 9 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

How old is your oldest? Did MIL really think that you wouldn't be told? you need to talk to your ex fist, if this isn't new he probably won't be real surprised. Tell her, so more time alone with the grandchildren. [ Reply | More ]

She shouldn't be left alone with them, if she is talking trash about you. I'm not sayng to cut her out, but she is not acting responsibly. Even if she thinks she is right, what she is doing is not healthy for your children and she SHOULD also understand that, and yet she can't help herself apparently. How old are your children. ^^^if you want this to pass, I think you should frame this this way to your ex. Be rational, don't yell, and don't threaten, but explain why you think this is so unhealthy to your children and make clear that you have never spoken ill of eithr of them to your children because that would be abusive. [ - ] DS has been having bouts of "my tummy hurts" over the last week or so -- sometimes it passes on its own, sometimes runs and has a big (soft) bowel movement, not diahrrea - and then fine, eats whatever -- any thoughts? Even woke up this morning very early with it "hurting", thought he had to poop, didn't, went back to sleep 4 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

Well, sounds like what we just finished cycling through. A super insidious stomach thing w/ various symptoms I've heard of....Ours started w/my 5yo complaining of stomach pain-threw up the first day- once or twice-and had a bit of a fever. No more fever or vomiting after that but persistent stomach pain over several days, accompanied by large soft bm's. that dragged on for several days w/out diarhhea, fever or vomit and pain and she only complained of pain after eating. Went to ped whom said she thought it was a lingering stomach bug, to keep food to a minimum, avoid acids(oj,tomatoes, etc) and dairy until it seemed to pass, keep an eye on her for any worsening pain or other symptoms. Bizarrely, the next symptom was slightly firmer, very smelly poop that was alarmingly pale in color. Called ped; she was duly cautious, as this can be a sign of quite serious illnesses when persistently occurrent-but said if this was the only symptom, that it could be the end of the bug's intestinal cycle, so just keep foods like rice, plain pasta, toast and plain potatoes to avoid complicating intestines. I did a lot of unflavored rice milk and kept her hydrated. 3 days later the stool was dark and she'd been feeling good for a couple of days. Resumed normal everything and she's great. The full cycle lasted over a week and a half, so be patient BUT careful-I got the pain within 1 week of her recovery, the runs next and it was a knockout few days. The stomach thing is all over nyc this month! GL [ Reply | More ]

pale stool. Ped said keep off much food, all dairy, acids(tomatoes, citrus, apple)and keep an eye out. 3 days and much unflavored rice milk later, poop normal and all clear-no pain. But 1 week later, it took me out! 1st day cramps, next 2- persistent, wretched, urgent runs, totally weak and wiped out; fair stool too. It's horrific-don't get it. I've heard it's all over town, so gl [ Reply | More ]
