[ - ] my step-daughter came to me feeling completely hopeless - she has never had a real bf for a number of good reasons, she has not had sex, barely done anything with a boy-she mentioned that she has come close to dating some guys, but she just stopped things dead in their tracks - she admitted to me that she finds herself constantly comparing other men to the boy that grew up next door to her, they were extremely close up until third grade or so when girls started to get cooties, but always remained pals and supported each other - apparently she can't see herself with anyone else, but timing has always been an issue bc he had a girlfriend when she was ready for a relationship and wanted to tell him and then when they broke up for a brief time she was away at school and wasn't even aware - then he and his gf got back together. i tried to tell her that if it is meant to be it will and he is only 23 and likely won't be marrying this girl he is with, i told her if it is meant to be it will be but she just needs to move on and let herself enjoy life. anyone btdt - it is odd bc the two really seem meant to be but the stars arent aligned just yet - his parents even love and adore step-dd 16 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

i've found out some/pieced together some - she seems to wind up starting to fall for guys but once some flaws come out they end up being ones she cant deal with (pot smoking, really bad mood swings, things she cant see herself living with), she also doesnt see the point of being oin a relationship that she knows wont go anywhere. not to mention she lives in manhattan which is the most difficult place to meet men! then I wouldn't do anything too extravagant (like the trip to paris). It sets the standard way too high. If he really is clueless, I would tell him to book a spa day for her birthday, followed by a lovely evening out. A nice piece of jewelery would be best for present. If he's totally lost on her style, have him get a picture or two of her wearing things she loves and pick out based on that. [ Reply | More ]

I had dated this really rich guy when I was about 22, he took me to Tiffany's and told me to pick out anything I wanted, I was really uncomfortable, in a way, I wish he would have picked it out, he would have spent way more than the little heart bracelet I bought, which was about $400! I was a waitress at the time, never went to college or dated any one above "Blue Collar". FYI, That bracelet is still my favorite piece of jewelry after almost 20 years, and many loaded bf's. NP. I am strict and consistent, but my ds was very difficult to manage in restaurants at that age. It took too much energy on my part to keep his behavior in check because he was very active and curious. I think that's completely normal. I found it difficult to enjoy dinner because I had to focus on him the whole time. It was better by the time he was 3 and not an issue by the time he was 4. [ Reply | More ]

They are both nice with many expensive homes, they just have different vibes. She might be able to get a better house in Scarsdale or think it's a little more bucolic than Larchmont. Scarsdale's school system ranks higher but they are both good. Some people who care about education are almost turned off that the Scrasdale school system is so good (they worry their kids will face too much pressure). I would guess you have to wear make up and get yourself together to go out a little bit more if you live in Scarsdale. [ Reply | More ]

my SIL got pg by accident w/ #4, was very upset and wanted to abort...her dh convinced her to keep it and she's so happy now. my sis also got pg w/ #3 by accident, upset, kept it and couldn't imagine life w/out him. it'll be great and dh will get over the initial shock. just ignore him [ Reply | More ]

I think your dd is a very smart dc, but maybe not the most compliant child. Since she is a sib, you could try to explain to school. With a great PSD report (who can go to bat for dd and explain the score), it might work out. But you probably should work on dd to cooperate more and socialize well for the playdates? Thanks for your encouragement! I will say that dd is definitely a charmer when she wants to be. . . but she's definitely her own person and not so concerned with being a people pleaser. [ Reply | More ]
General Topics 07.06.08, 05:32 PM Flag

Maybe you can work on that (people pleaser part) in the few months and take SB. Is the sib school not so sib friendly? I'd think with an overall score of 93, for a sib, it should be good enough?? [ Reply | More ]

Here's hoping. a 93 doesn't sound so bad. . . but the "scatter" on the performance doesn't look so good and the report doesn't read well. I don't think I can change her personality (and may not want even want to) before the fall. . . just wish she had been in one of her more charming moods when she took the test. . . ugh. I think 93 should do it. She is fortunate to be a sib also. 93 is nothing to sneeze at, even with scatter. I think you could have PSD explain it. [ Reply | More ]
