Seems like it--but I'm no expert. DS had a very rough patch in the middle of kinder. For him it manifested in complaining of feeling ill, having abnormally intense separation anxiety, and a blinking tic. We worked through that book and I spent a lot of time before bed just talking to him about his day and listening, trying to give him some strategies for dealing with his anxiety. Also not having too many activities and making sure he got enough sleep--all of that helped. [ Reply | More ]

I talked to him about my own experiences w/ anxiety--making sure to leave early so I could suss a new situation out. We would practice little dialogues (asking to use the bathroom was a big anxiety for him). During the day when he would start to worry I'd say "worry box" (to have him close the worry up in a mental box) then at night we would say "open the worry box" and talk about what was in it. Or I'd tell him the worries were trying to bully him & he needed to talk back to him. [ Reply | More ]
