If you want to start w/ paint, try the Benjamin Moore Affinity colors (in the Aura formulation). They all work together, so it's pretty fool proof. If you want specific color suggestions let me know--we did this fairly recently. [ Reply | More ]

Where the archways are you get a break point, so you could do colors that relate but aren't the same. What type of colors do you like? What's your style. In our home we did a blue-green in the living room, chocolate brown in the dining room (w/ white wainscoting), pale butter yellow in the kitchen. In the family room and all hallways we used a very pale neutral w/ a hint of green. [ Reply | More ]
General Topics 07.06.08, 08:15 PM Flag

I was thinking a yellow for the kitchen...dh wants a bold color in the dining room but there are no actual windows in the dining room so I think it is going to be way to dark ...I'm picturing greens, yellows and blues but just don't know how to put it all together. So you did a different color ceiling in each room too? [ Reply | More ]
General Topics 07.06.08, 08:33 PM Flag
»
Yep, each ceiling is the wall color cut in half w/ white--or you can take it down farther than that. We used mostly the Affinity colors but I did go with Restoration Hardware Buttercream for the kitchen--very pretty yellow. I'd say in the dining room I'd go for either a green or a warm color--if the room doesn't get much light. I think red is really overdone, but it does work in a traditional dining room. Blue makes the food look funny. [ Reply | More ]
General Topics 07.06.08, 08:35 PM Flag
»
Also, you might find it helpful to get the Affinity fan deck to start working with. It's only about 150 colors so way fewer choices (which is a good thing). And they do all work together. One thing is that the paint formulation is more expensive, but it doesn't emit the chemicals, etc (it's healthier). [ Reply | More ]

What support do you want. Hand holding? Consultations on what private school would be best for your dc? Public school guidance counselors aren't trained for private school consulting. In the few instances when a family wanted to apply to a private school (usually in later elementary years), guidance counselors always arranged for recommendations, transcripts - what they're supposed to do. How much of your friends' and your own reaction is snobbery adn how much is because you think a private school experience is better. I can tell you that your child will learn just as much or more at Anderson than at a second tier private. My impression is that the atmosphere at private is nicer and more appropriate for young children than the atmosphere at public. If your child is sensitive, that could be a problem. If your child is "normal," it won't be a problem. I would ignore anything you read about the parents on this board. It's a very skewed perspective. [ Reply | More ]

When is DBs birthday? Will you be applying for K or 1st? You might be better off staying in preschool another year and applying from there. [ Reply | More ]

Op- but what does yuo dd wear on fancy occasions or otherwise when it's cold but a ski parka doesn't work? [ Reply | More ]

Ski parka--we take it off when we get where we're going. It's never been an issue. There's no event for which she has to wear a coat that it can't be a parka. [ Reply | More ]

Out of the country won't be cheap. Even Canada is expensive, but lovely. You could try Costa Rica or Nicaragua or Argentina. I've had friends take family there recently and they loved it. [ Reply | More ]

Take them upstate to Rhinebeck, NY for the Dutchess County Fair, it is great! Live stock, Rides, Games, Shows, it was one of my favorite childhood memories. [ Reply | More ]

op: Sounds kind of fun. I loved fairs as a kid, but I can see my dh being all anal about the delicious funnelcake and cotton candy. [ Reply | More ]

you can just go up for the day, take the train if you don't have a car, or book now at the Rhinebeck Inn! It's a cute town. [ Reply | More ]
