how can you all say she is right?? People bring different things to a work place. It should not be all men wihout obligations. Women bring different, important qualities, and women with children do too. Everybody, men and women, should be given a certain amount of time off for caring for family (maternity leave, helping sick parent, partner, etc). Your aunt is wrong to look at numbers only. [ - ] ds is about to turn 1. we've been giving him a sippy cup with water for a few months now and after he takes a few sips, he starts to play with it and lets the water run out of his mouth and all over his shirt. I want to start giving him milk in a sippy cup but am not sure if he is ready - we have tried straw and nipple sippy cups and he does the same with both. anyone btdt? any advice? 7 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

[ - ] Anybody know of a good chair/rocker/bouncy/whatever for my nearly 1yo ... she is outgrowing her bouncy, and actually prefers to sit up rather than lie down to watch her video. I would like a good safe comfortable chair, something that I can keep her strapped into just in case I can't be right there next to her. 6 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

Well, she does try to wriggle out, which is why it needs to be a really strong strap! Mostly, I'm right there next to her, but sometimes I need to step out for a minute (have two other kids, 4.5 and 2.5) and my 1 yo is very active, climbs up stuff and everything. [ Reply | More ]

My DD loves her Pottery Barn Anywhere chair. If you need something that straps then maybe a booster seat? We have the FP Healthy Care booster. It's cheap and good for traveling too, and coverts to a regular booster when DC gets older. [ Reply | More ]

you could still go up to that area -- lake champlain has lots of cottage rentals. im sure you could get a good deal on something nice at the (relatively) last minute. it wouldn't have all the organized activities or babysitting, but you could get lakefront for swimming, visit farms in the area. i love it up there. btw - have you been to the tyler place before? we've considered it the past couple of years but haven't actually been. do you love and trust the nanny? or is the nanny-cam on when you are gone? if you want to keep her happy, money is good but I agree that it should be accompanied by a thoughtful gift...shows you care and that you listen to her. If she does happen to have a sweet tooth, and what girl doesn't, go to heidiandarthurs.com they have something sweet for every taste. [ Reply | More ]

np: I think thoughtful gift is a trap that people fall into but unless you know you are an excellent gift giver (which few of us are really) going with gift card to nanny's favorite store is much more likely to hit the mark with her. [ Reply | More ]

I'm not sure I agree with all the posters slamming OP. How sick is mil? Old people can end up in the hospital pretty easily, that doesn't mean that he can completely let go of responsibilities at home. If she was dying, that would be one thing, but a flu/infection doesn't sound like it warrants 24hour care by dh. [ Reply | More ]

no, I'm not complaining that it is bad for son to be worried. I just know that illness in a parent can make people a bit irrational, because it reminds them that parents are mortal. DH may be worried about his mom, but doesn't need to stay at hospital every waking second of the day. She's got nurses and doctors to take care of her too. Of course he should go and visit. And if she's really potentially on death's doorstep, he should be there as much as possible. [ Reply | More ]
