honestly, the most offensive part of it to me was the Michelle Obama caricature. her face in the cartoon is so accurate but it is only in that cartoon context would her face be interpreted as angry. But New Yorker male writers have always struck me as being somewhat misogynistic yet free from scrutiny to do what they want because they are at "the bastion of liberalism". i used to work at conde nast. i just feel that the New Yorker can be dismissive of minorities and women (unless you are slim, pretty, white and very quiet - then you are invited to the party as ornaments). i think the big "liberal show" they put on is only partially sincere and valid. some of them also were surprised that i was playing as a employee of conde nast. they seemed to mistake me, at first, as someone who had been recruited from the park because there was not enough people. anyone who says liberals can't be prejudice really has no idea what it is like to have darker skin (and i am not even that dark, except in the summer). but, then again, very few of you care either, which is why the problem persists....and why we have geniuses like david remnick making such hideously hurtful mistakes...y'all just don't give a shit and pat yourselves on the back for being liberal - i am still a liberal but i totally understand those few minorities who are brave enough to turn conservative... Wip it by Devo. My brother played it over and over again when he was like 3yr old. I was 14yr at the time (I'm 40 now) and I still can't stand to hear that song [ Reply | More ]

we've never had any kids music in our house--we can't stand the stuff--it's all awful, and I don't care if it's by Laurie Berkner or any of the other supposed kid musicians who "grown-ups" can listen to. our idea of "kid" music is Care Bears on Fire. Now they're good... [ Reply | More ]

[ - ] My son is 2 years old (27 months). He is speech delayed. We had his hearing checked and that was ok. He is in daycare four days a week and is the best daycare in our area. (We live in PA.) We pay for a speech therapist that we visit for a half-hour once a week. We also have early intervention services through our county. A speech therapist comes to our house one hour each week as well. We have appointments with two neurodevelopment pediatricians. (not available until January!) Everyone says that they do not think he is autistic but he definitely has a speech delay. We read to our son constantly. We have a basket of books in every room including the bathrooms. I am in corporate training so I open and ready to any suggestions on how I can best help my child. Do you have any suggestions? Thank you! 3 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

my best friends son has a speech delay. He got all of the svc that you mentioned. He was dx with a 1 yr delay. He's 5yr old now and has the speech of a 4yr old. He's done so much better since having the speech therapist. He was so shy and frustrated because of his speech. He used to act out from the frustration due to his lack of communication. Everything has changed. [ Reply | More ]

Hi mom - My son is 24 months with a speech delay. He has been checked out by a Mass. Gen. neurologist, Early Intervention and the Childrens Hospital Boston Pediatric Development Center (7 month wait...with strings pulled!) These days it seems every Dr.pulls the autism trigger and we heard it over and over. But I knew he was ok save this one quirk of no speech. He has tested fine for every possible disorder. I am now just going to back way off and let nature take its course. Our boys will talk soon enough. You have my sympathy and compassion. [ Reply | More ]
