[ - ] So I am new to the Urban Baby world and I was trying to find preschool info. I have one question that still remains unanswered. I have 1.5 year old twin girls (turning 2 in Nov.) Should I apply this Sept for next year or have I missed the boat on 2s programs. Also what is the benefit of going to a 2's program? Does it help you get into a 3's program? My girls are being raised bilingual (Portuguese/English) and are a little behind in their English skills so my instinct is to go slow with them. I appreciate any advice or links. 3 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

2's programs help you get into 3's programs, yes. so they are valuable for that reason. [ Reply | More ]

for any 2s program, the cut off by 9/1 of the year they start is at LEAST 2yo, but usually somewhere between 2.3 and 2.9, so they would not be starting this fall. you would apply in September for fall 09 when they would be 2.10. if you plan on private school, preschool will be 3 years and if you plan on public it will only be 2 years. i think by 2.10, most dcs really enjoy the structure and socialization of preschool. They would have been too young this year, as most programs require the child to be 2, if not 2.5 by Sept. 1. you should apply in the fall for 2's programs. It may seem that your dds will be on the older side for a 2s program in the fall of 2009, but there are going to be plenty of other dcs with fall birthdays. my ds has a november birthday and half of his preschool class had fall birthdays. Also, several bilingual dcs in ds's preschool class. very common in NYC. In the future, you will get more responses if you post preschool-related questions on the NY schools board. [ Reply | More ]

I used to consult (for free) to small businesses and you are right. The only cute shop that I remember made any $ was doing a lot of business online. They also did trunk shows (I think that's what they are called?). The shop itself was a loss leader. [ Reply | More ]

is this in manhattan or somewhere else? i think too many people who want to opne small shops have limited retail experience and don't know how much below the line expenses can add up or how much turnover you need in order to make a profit. that being said, there ARE small shops that do make a profit.
