I would start with absolutely not ever taking it outside. He can use it in the crib or in the house if he really is exhausted. Just limit it to inside for now and prep him that 3yo boys don't have pacifiers and then eliminate it when he is 3. [ Reply | More ]

We just said bye bye to binky this weekend (DS 27 mths old). DS used it for bedtime and weekend car trips at nap time. We read books and talked about giving it up for a few weeks. Then we arranged to have friends come over who have a new baby and we made a special box for the binkies (DS decorated it with stickers and colors). When the baby came over, he actually went right over and gave it to her. He hasn't cried for his binky at all. He has asked for it at bedtime/naptime a few times but each time I reminded him he gave it to the baby and he is a big boy now and that was it. He does have other comfort items which I give him when he asks (2 blankets). So far, so good 5 days later :-) [ Reply | More ]

I met a 14 year old on the plane the other day that I would trust my children with - it all depends on the maturity of the child/sitter. As well a 14 yr old may be more reliable and competent than the same child at 16-18 because they're not yet thinking about dating and after-school activities. [ Reply | More ]

True. But kids with high scores get an extra look. A kid with low 90s or 80s would have to be an absolute STAR on playdate to be noticed. Lots of kids. ERB's purpose is so that schools can sort kids into different buckets. [ Reply | More ]

Some allow children to pick a game or puzzle they would enjoy in part to see what DC picks and in part to see how DC responds to instructions if game is new, etc. At one, my DC picked a new game he had never played before, the interviewer told him game instructions, and they played. This was in a smaller group session with an hour playdate. [ Reply | More ]

dd can go to preK next year (fall 2009) and would register in Spring 2009. PreK is pretty much just your local zoned school, no testing. The testing is for K, so happens during the pre-K year (for your dd, not until fall 2009 at earliest, although might be able to take a test that summer). Right now, the NYC cut-off is Dec 31, so your dd will be young, but there will be other late birthdays. [ Reply | More ]
