[ - ] Mamma Mia! I haven't seen the musical and I am not an ABBA fan by a long shot, but I thoroughly enjoyed the movie. Went with dd last night and it was funny, cute, silly, campy fun. And of course Meryl Streep (at 59!) is great and gorgeous. 6 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

eh. I don't expect a lot for my $12, and I was entertained. Admittedly, sometimes I was laughing because it was so ridiculous. And I don't base my movie choices on what critics say. [ Reply | More ]

no, the critics didn't hate it - they said you have to lose yourself in the ridiculousness and just have fun. obviously you weren't capable of that [ Reply | More ]

[ - ] Monistat question: so, we were out of the country last week, and I developed a yeast infection- haven't had one in years. I went to local pharmacy but didn't recognize any of the meds, so I used yogurt- seemed to help but not get rid of it. Got home yesterday and picked up monistat, and when I put it in at bedtime- YEEOWWWW! It made me soooo incredibly itchy- and the burn. Holy Mother. I looked at the "warnings" and it says it can increase symptoms "minorly", but that was ridiculous. Anyone btdt? Wondering if I'm allergic to the cream or if it's a normal side effect. Was MUCH worse than the yeast infection. 4 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

this happened to me too- if you google Monistat and reactions you'll see that it's pretty common. I have never had this problem with any other brand- not sure what's different w/Monistat [ Reply | More ]

DON'T GO!!! We went- on a Wednesday- 2 weeks ago, and it was swarming with city camp kids. I waited 45 minutes to pee. My two year old could hardly see anything b/c so many kids pressed up against every display. Was with a friend who was 39 wks and she was miserable. Skip it. And Congrats! [ Reply | More ]

if you have a car, why not go to the movies, or to the mall? I'm thinking purely in terms of air conditioning comfort, and of being indoors. Plus, you might not get to go to the movies again for awhile. [ Reply | More ]

update from op: we went around 1 and it was so packed...we have a membership, so we just went inside to use the bathroom and headed to the beach and astroland. the line for the bathroom was super-long (as the 2nd poster described), and there were way too many camp kids there. but the beach was fun, and dd loved astroland...we returned to the aquarium around 3 and it was deserted. so nice. i noticed the camp kids leaving around 2:30...good to keep this in mind if anyone else is heading down there and wants to avoid crowds. thanks to all for the replies. it was good to know in advance that it would be crowded earlier in the day. we had a really fun day! If you feel like it won't work out, it probably won't. But you can't make a generalization based solely on the fact that it's his 1st post-divorce relationship, IMO. [ Reply | More ]

sure, it's doable, since it is such a short time. I would say go for it, except for your pregnancy- stress (and it will be seriously stressful, unless you have family help in addition to your childcare) is not good for you right now. [ Reply | More ]

For DD's 2nd we had cut out crowns for them to decorate (stickers, crayons). Then they played in the playroom and had cake, I think bopped balloons around a little. It doesn't need to be elaborate. [ Reply | More ]

google for party games. we rigged up fishing with magnets and paperclip fish - that was very popular. Duck, duck, goose is good if you have the space for them to run around. playing with bubbles at somepoint perhaps? [ Reply | More ]

If you absolutely want structure, get kids and parents in a circle, have a music time with rattles, toy piano, etc then roll a couple of big balls to each other while you are still in a circle, and then have a read aloud. [ Reply | More ]

we set up a play-dough table with lots of little, different colored play-doughs + sculpting tools etc.. at that age i don't think you need to have games or anything very structured. put out some crayons and paper...if you can find rolls of paper, you could also make outlines of kids' bodies and have them color them in. just remember to have fun. and don't forget to take photos (or designate someone to do this)...i always forget to do this! we saw it last fall in new jersey and are going again to msg (two dinosaur-loving boys). my youngest had just turned two the first time and he wasn't scared at all. BUT, he has that kind of personality (favorite rides at Disney this summer were snow white and the haunted mansion - go figure!). At any rate, it also helped that i went on youtube and showed him three or four videos of the dinosaurs in advance (including one that showed how they were controlled by humans). Don't know if this made THE difference, but i'm sure it helped. [ Reply | More ]
