Restrict it to use in the crib. That is a good start. [ Reply | More ]

Is there a specific reason you need to get rid of it totally now? [ Reply | More ]

If it is only in the crib how do others comment? He must be using it more than you just responded. Tell him he is a big boy and almost 3yo. Tell him that when he is 3 he will get a nice new toy to play with and say goodbye to his pacifier. [ Reply | More ]

I would start with absolutely not ever taking it outside. He can use it in the crib or in the house if he really is exhausted. Just limit it to inside for now and prep him that 3yo boys don't have pacifiers and then eliminate it when he is 3. [ Reply | More ]

well, when dd was chewing on a torn up gnashed paci, that was IT. i had already started to restrict it to only nap and bedtime so eliminating it was not too huge a problem. she did cry for it about 2 or 3 nights, then got over it. [ Reply | More ]

Is there a new baby in your life that dc can "give" the paci to? I have seen this work with some kids. Of course other kids did not appreciate the idea of some other kid getting their prized possession. Depends on the kid. [ Reply | More ]

We just said bye bye to binky this weekend (DS 27 mths old). DS used it for bedtime and weekend car trips at nap time. We read books and talked about giving it up for a few weeks. Then we arranged to have friends come over who have a new baby and we made a special box for the binkies (DS decorated it with stickers and colors). When the baby came over, he actually went right over and gave it to her. He hasn't cried for his binky at all. He has asked for it at bedtime/naptime a few times but each time I reminded him he gave it to the baby and he is a big boy now and that was it. He does have other comfort items which I give him when he asks (2 blankets). So far, so good 5 days later :-) [ Reply | More ]
