[ - ] decorator moms. long narrow hall with bedrooms off it. will putting in a chair rail help make it look wider or no? Any tricks or paint tips to make it seem wider. TIA 10 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

do you have molding up? try putting a chair rail and then painting the bottom half one color and the top the same color but cut 50% with white so they are the shade. then do the chair rail a white color. [ Reply | More ]

DH is going to put up molding, but then we thought doing a chair rail may help with the two colors next to each other on a paint chip thing. so breaking up the wall won't make it look narrower? 8 doors in the hallway btw. [ Reply | More ]

if you do a darker color on the bottom, a light chair rail, and a color a couple shades lighter above that, it will open it up a little [ Reply | More ]

that is what i mean. for example in our house we use a benjamin moore shade of green (one darker than tree moss) and then that cut 50% on top and white dove as the trim and chair rail. it just brightens up the room and makes it look very pretty. [ Reply | More ]

thanks to both of you...do you think it would be weird to do a semi-gloss on the bottom and satin on top (only because we already have these colors in these finishes) [ Reply | More ]

if you have kids i would do the finish that cleans off most. hallways tend to get marks on the walls from kids running down them and dragging toys through them. can't remember exactly which finish it is (maybe egg shell)... [ Reply | More ]

We were worried about that. But the ER doctor said DS had a classic "boomerang" reaction (second reaction after taking antihistamine which is much worse than original reaction), which is typical of food allergies and not environmental ones (where you just keep getting the same reaction). Of course we want the allergist to look into everything, I'm just going by what the ped on call at the ER said. [ Reply | More ]
