The other day, there were 3 moms of PG kids. But all different ages. If you are supposed to find a PG kid per 1000 kids (99.9th percentile), then there must be a lot more. [ Reply | More ]

Actually, it doesn't work that way. For some bizarre reason, everyone is refering to this percentile chart, but each test yields different results. For example, the same IQ score in SB4 and SB5 do not mean the same thing. It's easier to get higher score on SB4 than SB5. You will not find 1 kid of IQ 99.9% in SB5 per 1000. it's more like 1 per 10,000-100,000 or more. It is very strange there are so many PG parents on UB. I wonder if they understand what a PG means. They don't make each IQ test to fit into that percentile chart. Some test have lower ceilings and some have much higher ceilings. Some tests are outdated. For example, same IQ score does not mean the same depending on when they took the test due to flynn effect. For example, if you look at IQ 140 in SB4 taken 1978 and in 2002, there would be much less people with IQ 140 in SB4 in 1978 than in 2002. Supposedly IQ score goes up 3-4 points every decade. Testers usually do not give decimal points unless you do consultation. In oder to get decimal points, you have to have all the subtest scores, which is what they give during consultation. It is important to see the subtest breakdown to understand the profile of the child. Then, what did you pay the consultation fee for? [ Reply | More ]

huh? SB5 has ceilings, too. And a lower ceiling than SB-LM which is why some are calling for the return of SB-LM to estimate those whose IQs are truly out of the ballpark. SB5 can estimate only up to 160, using SB5 scale. If you max out, they're saying, SB-LM may be more useful than SB5 at that point. [ Reply | More ]
General Topics 05.26.08, 09:04 AM Flag

There is Extended IQ scale for those who score beyond IQ 150 or so in SB5. SB-LM is such an outdated test, nobody is taking it seriously. So far, I haven't heard of anyone who need to use Extended IQ scale in SB5 even if their score is beyond 150 in SB5. The threshold to use Extended IQ Scale in SB is extremely high. [ Reply | More ]
General Topics 05.26.08, 09:08 AM Flag

SB5 maxes out at 160 so the extended scale must be used after 150, then? Anyway, the scholars were advocating for SBLM only for kids who max out at 160 in SB5. [ Reply | More ]
General Topics 05.26.08, 09:11 AM Flag
»
No, nobody is suggesting to use SB-LM anymore. No institution is accepting SB-LM scores. SB5 is the best IQ test so far. As for SB5, even though the ceiling is 160, you can obtain, theoretically, much higher score if a person indeed has that capacity. As I said, no one has had the need as far as I know. That's how difficult to reach high scores in SB5. [ Reply | More ]

Davidson has very narrow parameters for acceptance. The scores must be there, one above 145 or 99.9%, but they also require the child demonstarte "extereme" precocity in one or more areas. They also have a portfolio option for acceptance, but the burden of demonstrating extreme precocity is heavier with this option. Our DC was accepted at just after 5 y/o with a 99.99% scoring. Davidson only accepts kids who have completed FIFTH GRADE, not four year olds! You folks are out of your minds.
