yes, we went through this... it almost sounded like db was gasping for air, so i was worried about sleep apnea and couldn't sleep myself. mentioned at the next ped visit and ped recommended swaddling db (which we had stopped doing) and the noises stopped. [ Reply | More ]

you should speak to the ped to whom you want to speak. if the best diagnostician is not your ped, obv you don't go to your reg ped. btw, in my ped's practice, they regularly pass on cases to someone else in the practice if they specialize in the disorder (e.g., if you have probs w/headaches, you do to the headache person). your ped will certainly not be offended. Medicine is totally different. I'm sure there are some egos out there but medical doctors consult with their colleagues all the time, patients get second opinions, they refer cases to someone who might have more experience or expertise. With all the medical liability these days, drs. are happy for you to get input from other physicians. It is your health (or your ds's wellbeing) that is most important. [ Reply | More ]

I don't think anyone is ever truly ready, but it was so worth it for me. My dds are 3 years aprt, it was a good range for us--older dd was potty trained and in pre-school, so she didn't need as much hands on care as the newborn. And she was old enough to want to help, play with the baby etc. I say go for it. [ Reply | More ]

[ - ] Day Care/Nanny question? I finally got my son into this greaet daycare that he had been on the list for since I was six months pregnant. He is 10 months now. He has been with the same nanny since he was three months old. He loves her and she is great with him. Putting him in daycare would save us $400/month which we really need. the daycare goes up to "preschool" and they have an academic setting much like a pre school. They learn letters, numbers, colors, geography. Its like a montessori setting. Its in Union Square, right in between my job and DH's job on the subway. [ Reply | More ]

sounds perfect. Go with the daycare. Not only will you save money now, but in two years, when you would need to add preschool on top of the nanny, it would cost you an additional $10k/year. So you would actually be saving $5k for the next two years and $15k for the two years after that. Is the nanny really worth the extra $40K? [ Reply | More ]

[ - ] anyone have issues with nieghbors (apt dwellers) when you had a newborn or were doing CIO, from all the crying? In my old building it was never an issue, but in my new place some actually complained about DS crying (we were doing CIO). I don't want to distrub anyone, but we have to let him cry sometimes. When we're doing CIO, I usually put a note under my neighbors' doors, just so they know what's going on. I tell them to let me know if the noise is too much so we can try to do something. At a certain point though, you can't really worry about the neighbors. This is city life. [ Reply | More ]
