WWYD: My ped is away for 2 weeks. DS needs to see someone, and I'm making an appt with senior ped in practice. I also have concerns about ds's dev't... should I speak to this other ped, who is considered the best diagnostician in the group, or wait to speak further with my ped in a few weeks? Basically should I two-time my peds??? [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

you aren't 2 timing your ped. You need to see a DR so you can see who's covering him [ Reply | More ]

op: i know, but this is sort of taking the issue out of my peds hands into another. If a client did this to me with a project while I was on vac, I'd be pissed. But my son's dev't isn't a project! My mom says go for it, but I feel that as it's not urgent, it may be a no-no.... [ Reply | More ]

I think it's ok to being up to this ped and continue the evaluation next time with your ped. [ Reply | More ]

you should speak to the ped to whom you want to speak. if the best diagnostician is not your ped, obv you don't go to your reg ped. btw, in my ped's practice, they regularly pass on cases to someone else in the practice if they specialize in the disorder (e.g., if you have probs w/headaches, you do to the headache person). your ped will certainly not be offended. Medicine is totally different. I'm sure there are some egos out there but medical doctors consult with their colleagues all the time, patients get second opinions, they refer cases to someone who might have more experience or expertise. With all the medical liability these days, drs. are happy for you to get input from other physicians. It is your health (or your ds's wellbeing) that is most important. [ Reply | More ]
