Many preschools start older - 2.7 at best. You may want to check in your area. For her, no rush to go to preschool, for you perhaps to get some free time. Otherwise lots of classes for her age range available in the city. [ Reply | More

np: you can get a schedule going without cio. sounds like he gets up at about the same time every day - most 1 yos take 2 naps - so do whatever you do to get him to sleep at around 9:30 and then again around 2 - then pick a bedtime. he will fall into roughly that schedule within a week or so [ Reply | More

Yes, and if you are intent on moving to the burbs - this will be a nice transition. There are worse things than Forest Hills, it is a fairly easy commute into Manhattan and it is a neighborhood with lots of green and good schools if you can't move before dc reaches school age. [ Reply | More
