The answer: sort of. According to Weissbluth (and my own experience), daytime naps shouldn't go longer than three hours. A 12-hour night is not uncommon, and it could be that she is evolving her own schedule. Try helping her out by putting her down at 9 a.m., 1 p.m., and 7 p.m. for the night. [ Reply | More

I leave laundry for her to fold and put away and she doesn't do it for a couple days. she's wasteful with food, leaving lights on, running the water for ages...she's not that careful with dc stuff - loses shoes etc. She is not great with time management and is a little spacey. However, she loves dc and our dog too and never rests even when they nap has tons of playdates and activites and is creative and very engaging with all the stuff she does with them. [ Reply | More

learning to build comfort/tolerance with the tough emotions that come with ptsd is key. cognitive behavioral therapy can be very helpful. yoga can too (getting to a mindful place), thoguh depending on the trauma, it may be tough to do at first (like if it is a sexual trauma, ahving a strange person touch you to get into proper position may be tough). there aren't many therapists who are knowledgeable about trauma. national child traumatic stress network has good resources and links. if you are in nyc, i can refer you somewhere.
