ITA...there are usually no quick fixes to myriad of parenting problems. Potty training no exception. Not a flame but sometimes parents try something once and just because it doesn't work that one time, they think it won't work at all. Consistency and repetition are your friend. [ Reply | More ]

I think they call it potty training for a reason. You really need to train tehm, not jsut wait until they train themselves. I had friends who waited until 3, then had kids refuse until they were four, so I trained mine at 2, before it became a mind game. You need to just be in charge, Pick a day. Honey, June 1 st is the day all 4 yos stop wearing diapers. No pull-ups, unless for over night. He stays at home naked all day. I did this, just morning...we called "Naked Mornng Potty Training." He cleans up after himself. (you follow along to really clean). He gets underwear after a few successes. [ Reply | More ]

ok, as a FT WOHM (also FT WOHD), I have to step in here. Yes I agree that all parents need to participate and I do. But I have a full time job and my boss, who pays me, expects me to be there to do it. I can't make myself 100%, or even 60% available or even 20% available for the stuff that the school does. Sorry, it's just the way it is. I assume if you choose and are able to SAHM, you do so you can participate more in your DC's school. If I was able, which I am not, to stay home, I would. If you don't want to do it, don't. [ Reply | More ]

if someone sends an e-mail or a letter or makes a call to me asking my input on something. I respond. If there is going to be a decision made about something, I expect to be told where and when so I can decide if I want to have input. And I pay the same money you do to send my child to that school, so I get to have just as much input on what goes on. Let's not forget that I pay the school to do these tings, if I wanted to spend 24/7 dealing with the education of my child I would home school him or get job at his school. [ Reply | More ]

I get what you are saying...but I hope you are not one of those parents who selectively provides input and then complains when your input was not heeded. There are things that need input and help that you, frankly, should not opt out of. Yes, you pay your tuition/taxes, but in many ways, tuition only covers part of what it costs to keep the school running...what about the hours of volunteer time it takes to run activities, pto, etc. It is not just all fun and games. You seem a little dismissive about the value a SAHM provides to schools that YOU think you are too important or busy to attend to. [ Reply | More ]

do you work? I am a lawyer, a cog in a wheel of a law firm. i am the first one to admit that I am completley unimportant and the legal community would go on just fine without me if I missed a day or two or 30. However, my boss doesn't see it that way or doesn't care. He expects me to be at work. My point is that it doesn't matter how important you are your job, you are expected to be there and if you don't show up...big problems. As WOHM the only guilt owrse than guilt you feel about not being htere for your kid, is the guilt you feel slacking at your job when you are being there for your kid. It's a no win situation. don't pretend for one second that these "super-moms" don't do this becuase they want to be important, and DCs school is really the only place they get to do it. In all likelyhood they are SAHM and have decided to make DC's school their "job." As a WOHM, I am grateful that they are there doing things that I am unable to do, however I also know that this same little group of women run around that school like it is their personal little fiefdom and they are its royal court. I had this problem with me dd at 3.6 She didn't feel it, like your ds and that makes potty training hard. They become discouraged and lose confidence. Does he have any sensory issues? It sounds as if he does have too high a threshold. Have you tried taking him to the potty every 30 minutes to prevent accidents and help him gain confidence? Tell him eventually he will be able to feel the urge to go but not until he gets rid of the diaper. Also, after the diaper he will go less often - the body adapts. [ Reply | More ]

do NOT turn this into a power struggle. She has the last word in this. Buy a diaper a size smaller and let her wear those. at some point she will feel uncomfortable in them because they are tight and will not want to wear them anymore. Once she's out of those you still have to deal with bed wetting and soiling. Once the kid is physically able to hold it in until she can get to the toilet she will do it. My kid was 4 1/2 when she was finally out of the diaper at night. [ Reply | More ]

We had the same issue when DS was 4 and a month or so. I also found that when he slept overnight once or twice w/o pull-up he didn't poop... So i stopped the pull-ups, and guess what: he stopped pooping in his pants (maybe 1-2 accidents) and went to the toilet. They don't like to sit in it. They learn quickly. We maybe had incidents with poop on the underpants -- quick wash in the sink (after dropping into toilet). And we were diaper/pull up free within 2 days!!! [ Reply | More ]

i had an 8 hour a day colicky baby. you can let them cry for a bit, or just give them the boob. try going on a walk. try a pacifier, get some help. wear ear plugs, try to relax your body, try giving the baby a bath, or just put the baby in a bassinet and stand outside for a while. [ Reply | More ]

op: he's 9 weeks. The thing is, my first was like this too and I know it gets better (at least it did with #1). But having a difficult newborn with another kid is really trying my patience--- [ Reply | More ]

It's hard, I know. I had the tough newborn, and now she is 2 and I have a 4 months old. I'd recommend spending a lot of time with baby in the stroller or car, just getting out. Mine usually stop whining when we are in motion [ Reply | More ]

try to get a sitter for an hour or two when you can - my dd would not take a bottle or a binky and cried constantly for me - but if I had had some help to relieve me it would have helped a lot. I would literally go from bjorn to sling to car to arms to bjorn to car to sling, etc. [ Reply | More ]

[ - ] Brother and girlfriend visiting soon from Europe. They want a list of nice restaurants where real New Yorkers eat (i.e. not touristy). I am so sadly in babyland that I cannot think of any off the top of my head. What would be on your list [anything but the highest and lowest ends ok]? 12 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]
