I'm thinking of trying those training pants, the ones that make them feel wet, as opposed to the pullups which keep them pretty dry. I'm thinking that as it gets warmer, it will feel pretty gross to be in poop or pee. [ Reply | More ]

op: it is because a lot of pre-schools require the dc's to be potty trained and i'm concerned about pre-k. [ Reply | More ]

I'm kind of going thru this with my dd who is 3 yo. She won't even try the potty, so it is also a power struggle [ Reply | More ]

3.4 mos. She tells me when she has to pee or poop then only goes in the pullup. If I say to go in the potty she tells me she's going to fall in and cries for a pull up which I give her. But now I've moved the pullups into the bathroom so we're going to go in the bathroom at least. [ Reply | More ]

She really gets hysterical and I kind of think it would be worse if she had an accident (not that I would care) but it really gets ugly. [ Reply | More ]

I had this problem with me dd at 3.6 She didn't feel it, like your ds and that makes potty training hard. They become discouraged and lose confidence. Does he have any sensory issues? It sounds as if he does have too high a threshold. Have you tried taking him to the potty every 30 minutes to prevent accidents and help him gain confidence? Tell him eventually he will be able to feel the urge to go but not until he gets rid of the diaper. Also, after the diaper he will go less often - the body adapts. [ Reply | More ]

Don't listen. It IS hard and every kid is different. My dd is stubborn as a mule and no bribe or anything is making her go. [ Reply | More ]

I told my boy when he mastered the potty he moved to a big boy bed. If he did this, I'd put him back in the crib. [ Reply | More ]

How are his poops? Sorry if this is gross, but if he's not regular, the "pushing" of the poop into the potty can feel scary. If his poops are already soft and easy to expel, then I don't know....but if it's an effort to get out, you may want to fiddle with his diet so that poop is easy. [ Reply | More ]

do NOT turn this into a power struggle. She has the last word in this. Buy a diaper a size smaller and let her wear those. at some point she will feel uncomfortable in them because they are tight and will not want to wear them anymore. Once she's out of those you still have to deal with bed wetting and soiling. Once the kid is physically able to hold it in until she can get to the toilet she will do it. My kid was 4 1/2 when she was finally out of the diaper at night. [ Reply | More ]

We had the same issue when DS was 4 and a month or so. I also found that when he slept overnight once or twice w/o pull-up he didn't poop... So i stopped the pull-ups, and guess what: he stopped pooping in his pants (maybe 1-2 accidents) and went to the toilet. They don't like to sit in it. They learn quickly. We maybe had incidents with poop on the underpants -- quick wash in the sink (after dropping into toilet). And we were diaper/pull up free within 2 days!!! [ Reply | More ]

repeat after me: THERE ARE NO MORE DIAPERS. Just put your kid in underwear and detatch. Ride it out. THERE ARE NO MORE PULLUPS, THERE ARE NO MORE DIAPERS. [ Reply | More ]
