When #1 is in school and #2 is in a class, etc. I also usually take them for part of Sat or Sun so she can do stuff. (When I am home and she is at work I am parenting, too.) I would want a husband who was hot and made an average high salary (low 100Ks) and got home by 8 pm every night unless he is out with the boys. I would permit him to go on guy trips if he wanted and I would have sex with him on call 24/7 if he was hot. And hot to me is like an 8.5 on a 10.0 scale. Its not easy to get a preK spot from the 151 zone. But K spot in 6, 158, 59 or 198 guaranteed. I think PS 198, 158, and 59 have preK programs, but last fall the 158 principal said there were not enough preK spots at her school to accomodate 151 folks. DOE seems in fact to be withdrawing acceptances: re one Brooklyn pre-K, this was posted pn Inside Schools forum (copied from local listserve:POSTING HERE FROM ANOTHER LIST: They have the list of acceptances, but are refusing to register anyone who is not in zone or siblings. If your kid is a sibling or in zone, and was rejected, please contact the PS10 office to put your name on the list. They are sending a list to DOE of kids who got rejected. By last count today 9 siblings and 3 zoned kids were rejected, that they know of, but there are doubtless more. On the flip side, there were many kids who were accepted that shouldn't have been--out of zone, out of district even, with no siblings, and even kids who didn't have PS10 as their first choice. They are not going to register these people until all the siblings and zoned kids have been accommodated. The DOE has agreed to this. I am passing this info on because PS10 wants to make sure they get everyone on their list to the DOE who was wrongly rejected. Please pass this info on. [ Reply | More ]

Could someone explain the situation on wrongly awarded pre-k slots? My DD got into 158 but we are torn over pulling her out of private school, however, the $ savings would be great. Did they award to outside of zone? [ Reply | More ]

It is pretty clear that they rejected sibilings. Other issues have been mentioned, check out the blog at insideschools.org to see what others are asserting. [ Reply | More ]

not yet -- dc in 1st grade. but i could get away with having someone less than two hours per day, as my work schedule is such that i can be home pretty early. as is, our nanny works part time now. [ Reply | More ]

only if you get home in time. I don't think you can leave kids by themselves after school until they are least in 6th grade. [ Reply | More ]

what happens when they are sick? doing after school every day is a long day, having the different vacation schedules is tough. we've made do without one, but it is a struggle. haven't found someone we liked yet-have one pt but not enough for us [ Reply | More ]

When they are sick, you take a sick day too. [ Reply | More ]

I know plenty who do. They key is either "after care" at the school and/or being able to coordinate your work schedule with your spouse and trade off the pick up/drop off duties. [ Reply | More ]

np: The thing about aftercare is that unless you go to a school where it's subsidized (which are generally only schools in lower income nabes) afterschool is more expensive than babysitter even for one dc, and most definitely for two. Plus it is a really long day for the kids. [ Reply | More ]
