how did you start potty training? did your dc show interest or dislike having a wet/dirty diaper. my 4.5 yo ds doesn't mind it, and i think he's lazy, so it's become a power struggle. any BTDT's? is it just a matter of waiting until they're ready, and some dc's just aren't ready until they're 5 yo? help! no snarky comments please. i bought a potty for him when he turned 2 yo! i think they can pretty much all be ready long before 5 years, unless there's some particular developmental problem. [ Reply | More ]

from child development classes in grad school? i'm not sure exactly where i got this info, but i'm pretty sure if you do some research you'll find it to be the case. i'm not much in favor of reward systems, but i think at this point one might be in order. [ Reply | More ]

By that age you should be able to just tell him that it's no longer okay to use a diaper, time to use the toilet. Don't offer more diapers. May take a few days but totally worth it! [ Reply | More ]

ITA...there are usually no quick fixes to myriad of parenting problems. Potty training no exception. Not a flame but sometimes parents try something once and just because it doesn't work that one time, they think it won't work at all. Consistency and repetition are your friend. [ Reply | More ]

I think they call it potty training for a reason. You really need to train tehm, not jsut wait until they train themselves. I had friends who waited until 3, then had kids refuse until they were four, so I trained mine at 2, before it became a mind game. You need to just be in charge, Pick a day. Honey, June 1 st is the day all 4 yos stop wearing diapers. No pull-ups, unless for over night. He stays at home naked all day. I did this, just morning...we called "Naked Mornng Potty Training." He cleans up after himself. (you follow along to really clean). He gets underwear after a few successes. [ Reply | More ]
