Does gagaga but no other repeating syllables. But is hitting his gross motor milestones months ahead of time (rolling both ways at 3 mos., crawling at 5 mos, now at 7 mos trying to pull to stand). The school thing is definitely the worst thing about living in NYC but there are so many positives. My kids have spent 6 years in a school we love. I walk to work and my kids walk to school. We know many of the store owners in the neighborhood and chat with them. We always run into people we know in the playground. I like the diversity. I love not having to drive. I love going to museums rather than malls on rainy Saturdays. I love that people use public space. But the school thing is really hard and stressful. But suburbs have their own stresses too. Generalize much? Most people don't buy into the preschool hype, but do buy into the other choices that come with living in NYC - like having things like AMNH as a "rainy day activity" instead of a once a year special event. And NYC residents are generally not rude and angry, those are just the tourists who think they have to act that way to fit in (and end up making asses of themselves in the process). [ Reply | More ]

We've gotten both kids into the schools we want each time so far. I'm not going to say it's a cakewalk, but it's not nearly as bad as the freak-outs here make it sound. You just have to know what you're doing, be willing to do a little work, and not buy into the idea that there are onyl one or two acceptable schools in all of NYC. [ Reply | More ]

Re friendliness, it really depends where you live. Our (Manhattan) family neighborhood is very friendly. I would not like to live in some parts of downtown, e.g. I don't think Chelsea or the LES are equally friendly (just examples). And with a relatively high HHI there's less stress and anxiety. On less $$s, I would move elsewhere. My personal reason for living here is that I'm working FT. It would be much harder to commute to Manhattan each day. [ Reply | More ]

no, not a contest. it just sort of happened that way. we had the first, we didn't see a reason not to go for the second. dc#3 was sort of a whoops. wasn't really planning on having it that soon. i wasn't really expecting to get pregnant. in retrospect, she was the smoothest transition. like the poster above said, i think both smaller families and bigger families have pros and cons. i see a lot of positives for dcs and i'm happy with the decisions we've made. ^^i'll also just add that it's not something you see the benefits of until it happens. each child is bringing so much to the family. there was nothing wrong with our family when we had one child or two children. but each addition just added something beautiful. adds a balance or brings out something in everyone else. so as long as i'm not feeling overwhelmed by it, and dcs are ok, and our finances are holding up, we decided to ttc again. i hope that explains at least some of it. good night [ Reply | More ]

Legally you can terminate first offer but it is unethical. make it your back up offer and reap good karma [ Reply | More ]

that's my question . . we're not sure we want to lose them at all. Can we say we have another offer and see if they will match or go above? [ Reply | More ]

again, you can play it both ways. but this is a touchy market. Any ethical attorney will advise you to stick with the first offer and take the second as back up. You could mention the offer and tell them they need to complete their end in a timely manner. But that's my personal opinion. Legally you can abort atty review for any reason. [ Reply | More ]

That's the thing, we like the first couple but we also like that the 2nd offer is 10K above. The 2nd offer seems a bit risky which is why I'm leaning towards sticking with #1, but didn't know if we could try and press them into making a higher offer. Do people do that? [ Reply | More ]

Is that like chicken fried steak? If so- what the heck is that? I've never eaten it, and never really known what it is [ Reply | More ]

yes, but for some reason I hate that name - same dish though. cubed steak floured and fried - crunchy outside and great inside [ Reply | More ]
