[ - ] NANNY question: when interviewing, do you throw out a salary or do you ask them what they want/expect? My current nanny has to leave suddenly & I'm thrown back into the interview process after many years 7 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

wow. Those are big raises! everyone I know raises $25/year and $50-100 for a 2nd child. Honestly, I think you put yourself in a bad situation by raising so much for yearly raises. Don't know what to tell you. Will the older child be in school when the younger is born? If so, will you be taking the older child to school or will your nanny? Do you SAH or WOH? [ Reply | More ]

Then I think you need to increase to $950. No only will there be a 2nd child, but she will need to shlep that child to and from school each day, so having your older child in school doesn't actually make her day any easier. [ Reply | More ]

[ - ] DD broke her arm at daycare last week. She was holding a rope they use to bring the kids to and from the playground and another kid pulled the rope, breaking her arm. Teacher waited 4.5 hrs. to call me, even though she cried a lot and arm hanging limp. I was all set to find new situation--would be difficult, but I couldn't see leaving her there another day. But I spoke to director, and she said all the right things and implemented major changes to safety protocol. It kinda took the wind out of my sales and now I'm not sure whether to pull her anyway. WWYD? 19 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

I would talk to my ped. who would have a lot more experience with broken arms. Maybe your ped will tell you lots of parents wait a long time, don't realize the arm is broken. OTOH, maybe your ped will tell you that only a moron wouldn't have realized that immediate medical care was required. [ Reply | More ]

ita. A friend of mine is a K teacher and had a student break her arm on the playground, and she kept her in the class all afternoon because the child didn't complain that it hurt! She needed surgery too- it was awful, and my teacher friend was a wreck about it. But she really didn't know that it was serious. [ Reply | More ]

my mother is a piano teacher and had a student in her class who had two broken arms for about 5 days until my mother noticed. i broke my foot, and my mother (the same woman, obviously) waited about 5 hours to bring me to the hospital. it is fine. did your daughter cry the full 5 hours? i doubt it. i can understand you would feel this way, but i don;t think the teacher was necessarily in the wrong and that you have to pull your kid because of it. In the teacher's defense, it seems so unlikely that being pulled while holding a rope could break an arm. My friend waited days before realizing her dd's arm was broken from a fall off a bike. [ Reply | More ]
