that I don't know. I was just talking to dc's 4th grade teacher. the 3 or 4 distinction isn't really all that important. It's the scaled score that is important. You want your dc to score at least a combined 1385 so anything over a 700 on the ELA is good. good luck. Hope you get your dc's score soon. [ Reply | More ]

I was told that all the schools have the results but that DOE has not allowed schools to release them to parents because DOE is planning to make some big announcement about scores this month and wants the scores held until then. NYC Elementary Teacher here. The deal is that the schools received preliminary scores of most, but not all of the children. We have no information for kids in our school who live out of the boro or the zoned area. We are told that the official scores should be in this coming week or next week. Schools don't want to release if they don;t have everyone's score. It just wouldn't look right. The DOE hasn't told principals not to release scores, but if they don't have all of the scores yet, they won't. [ Reply | More ]

Do you really think that after the debacle of last year the DOE is going to leave a G&T program half empty? OR: I think its irresponsible for *most* people, in *most* circumstances, for a variety of reasons, to consider spending $30k minimum on kindergarten. I'm a product of public schools (and ivy college). Feel like I've seen both sides of the fence, clearly, and this is our choice. As for "WTF do we spend $$ on"? College savings, retirement, charitable donations, among the usual. [ Reply | More ]

So what's the threshold? Is it okay for you to spend almost half ($60k of $130k) on education, but not, say 2/3rd? If there was a $100k/yr K option floating around out there, would you look down on millionaires for not going that route? [ Reply | More ]

You I can't stand. If we made 700k I'd pay for private without blinking. I really can't stand public. Only looking at it because I don't want to loose sleep over not being able to keep up with our bills and save [ Reply | More ]

Cant stand me!? maybe if we lived in a horrible zone I'd share your antipathy about public. Or if dc needed some sort of special attention. But none of that's true. you should love me, because we're spending the money on actual problems in the world! [ Reply | More ]

Well - perhaps just jealous. If I lived near a good school I might be more open to public. But even with 300k HHI we can't afford to move to a better zone without significantly downsizing or pay for private for 2 dcs. [ Reply | More ]

we opted out of solid lower tier school for good selective public last year, as did many others. would only do for anderson LL or ps9 personally. [ Reply | More ]

would not travel so far for a citywide. feel local options are as good or better academically, and that the commute would not be worth it. there are many years in front of us, and I have no idea where we will want to be in 13 years of education. thus, I am not so invested in having it all figured out at the K level. seems reasonable to play it as we go [ Reply | More ]

I am mulling it for the future--e.g., I have a child that was too young for privates this year and I was attending to apply for next year, but when OLSAT score came in high I decided to see what happened with citywides this year. It is obviously an easier switch to public for me than for some others because I won't need to forgo any type of deposit [ Reply | More ]

We will take Anderson over lower tier private, but probably won't get it with a 98. I am holding off ordering uniforms though until placements are mailed, just in case. The only reason is $$. Otherwise, prefer private for lots of reasons. [ Reply | More ]

use your connections. you don't have any connections, hire a consultant. they get flamed on here, but if it was not for my consultant, we would not have a placement. got off a waitlist in March. [ Reply | More ]

I got one from here that has a little umbrella sunshade that has inflatable rings so it would be small enough to pack. It says for 9+ mo, but you'll be right next to dd entire time anyway so even if it's a little big, it's not like you're letting her float around unsupervised. [ Reply | More ]
