[ - ] I might get flamed for this, but here we go: I am the child of teenagers. My parents were in their Senior year of high school. My grandmothers both advised them to terminate, but they wouldn't do it. My parents got married and stayed together until my mom died 2 yrs ago. We were really poor when I was really little, but we were very comfortable by the time I was in high school and my dad is now a relatively wealthy man. My grandmothers to this day fight with one another, but they were both a crucial part of my childhood and adult life. This may seem pointless, but sometimes it does work out. 4 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

this is me, although I am at 20 months and don't even care anymore. offer the supply-challenged one first every time. you can also pump to try to build up the supply in that one. the risk at 2 months is that you may lose milk altogether in that one if you don't keep it up. this is pretty common btw. if you have a lactation consultant she may have other ideas as well. [ - ] I am critiquing a children's story for a class. It is a long poem geared toward 5 to 10 year olds. It is about a puppy and, in the very beginning, the puppy's mother gets eaten by a shark. Would this be too dramatic for young children to stomach? A mother getting eaten by a shark, leaving the puppy alone? I was so afraid of sharks when I was little. I used to visualize them coming up at me whenever I swam in the sea. 18 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

np: I was thinking the same thing. I do think that it's a bit heavy handed with the dead mother tradition of children's stories, but their would need to be plenty of setting or plot devel. for a dog to be plausibly eaten by a shark. Sounds like shock for shock value. [ Reply | More ]

Read this - Uses of Enchantment: The Meaning and Importance of Fairy Tales by Bruno Bettelheim - a child psychologist who analyzes how children interpret stories. Very often the death of the mother is symbolic of growing up and gaining independence, a scary but important transition for kids. I don't think kids should be sheilded from everything - working through these feelings while listening to and interpreting stories helps get them ready for the reality later in their lives...the reality of going off on their own, not the death of their mother. "knocking" is a term for having sex. Brits call whorehouses "knocking shops" for example. There's also the phrase "knocking boots" which may be the origin of the usage of knocking this way. So instead of being "laid up" which is how one would describe an animal that was injured and couldn't work, we get "knocked up" [ Reply | More ]
