She's fine. Easy to make apppointments, gives nice written reports, but she seems a little bitchy to me. Not sure why. She's never been anything but nice to me, but I always feel like she's got a secret mean girl side. [ Reply | More ]

op:oh dear! thinking of switching to her - is there someone else at that office you'd recommend? have left 2 msgs that I'd like to make an appointment and office hasn't yet called back - not a good sign but I thought I'd persevere and left another msg today. That's why I asked how hard it is to make appts (ie this could just be an unusual example). Does she push meds at all? Is she okay with exploring more natural options? Thanks again. [ Reply | More ]

This is true, and the bug (and the bjorn) is all we ever used until about 1yo when we got an umbrella stroller for subway rides, etc. You can get another stroller if and when you need it. [ Reply | More ]

If you get the Bug (which I personally think is a waste, but that's me) you don't need the snugride frame, just the attachment. If you get the Bug you will also need some kind of lightwieght travel stroller --I recommend a Mac Truimph, for when DB is over 3-4 months, becuase when hte Bug is used without the carseat it is a nightmare to travel with (hard to fold, heavy). However what I really recommend is first just buying hte Graco carseat and hte Snugride stroller frame (which only costs $50). It is so great in the beginning, it's light, easy to use and fold and I walked EVERYWHERE all over the city with it, as did many of my friends. Then when DB outgrows this for his regular stroller use (around 3-4 months) you can decide what real stroller to invest in. Trust me it is lot easier to see what you want after you spend time at the playground, walking around, talking to other mothers and seeing what they have and what you like. I didn't do this and I regretted it. I bought a Bug before DB was born, never used it becuase some bought me the stroller frame and it was just easier to use. Then when it came time for a regular stroller I just didn't like the bug (I know most people do, I just didn't) however I fell in love with a friends Phil & Ted, and ended up buying that. I also got a lightwieght Mac for the car. This is my advice, do with it what you will. [ Reply | More ]

sorry I got cut off. What I was saying was wait to decided becuase after you hang at the playgrtound and spend time with other mothers and walk around alot, you will see what they have and why they like or don't like certain things. I wish I had done this. I bought a Bug before DB was born, but used the graco stroller from in the beggining becuase some gave it to me, then when I switched to the BUG I didn't really like it. But I fell in love with friends Phil & Ted's and ended up buying that. SO basically I wasted almost $1000 (I did end up selling it though). If you live in the City a stroller that you like is really important and htey expensive. You don't need to decide what you want now. You can use the carseat and stroller frame for at least 3 mos while you decide. [ Reply | More ]

You could get a college student to do the PT hours, find a PT nanny, share with a SAHM who wants PT help in the early part of the day, or even split a nanny with another family with dc in preschool where you each pay 1/2 cost of FT nanny and she has 2 kids from 3-7pm (or whatever), or you could get a FT housekeeper/nanny combo [ Reply | More ]

You may want to contact a social worker who specializes in adoption to get more information. Ask them to try imagine life in 1 year, 3 years, 5 years (with and without a child). Ask them separately, but get them to really think of what it will be like. It also sounds like you will need to think about your life like that because given their age, you will have a lot more responsibility than a traditional grandma... [ Reply | More ]

I'm sorry to hear this and I hope that your son and his girlfriend make the best decision for what is best for them and everyone involved. I can only imagine how hard this is on your whole family. [ Reply | More ]

I hope this isn't terribly insensitive at this difficult time for you, but if your son and his girlfriend decide to go the adoption route, I know a very loving family who is looking to grow their family through adoption, and would very, very much be interested in learning more. I'm watching this post to see how their decision process is going. I hope you'll keep us informed. [ Reply | More ]
