Is this about 1.5 hours after DS goes to sleep? Sounds like a nightmare. Could be triggered by: (1) Growth Spurt, (2) Developmental Spurt (language, motor skills...) or (3) Very active day. Don't beat yourself up, this is totally normal! [ Reply | More ]

Comfort him. Is he really awake or is he still sleeping? I usually hold my ds while he cries and rock him gently while singing. Offer him water (if awake). The singing usually quiets him down. Try not to turn on a light... [ Reply | More ]

Cute side story: the ABC song became his 'calm down' song. The other day, he offered to sing it to a crying infant at the park. So cute. [ Reply | More ]

He can hold out till noon but not much later. Advice? even pushing it 15 min every few days doesn't work too well 1 Reply [ Reply | Watch | More ]

worry about this in 2-1/2 months. seriously much can change in that time. When he starts preschool he will be stimulated by that he will stay up, though he will probably take good naps afterwards. [ Reply | More ]

op: On the occassion that we go to park or pool, etc. I guess just don't like that non-sharing vibe. By 4 I feel he should be over this. I guess not. (also I have an uncle who was always like this and is really selfish as an aduly and I'm thinking this will be my kid...projecting - I know. But can't help it) [ Reply | More ]

i don't think it's a big deal if he doesn't want to bring toys. but if you want to encourage it, you should buy some new toys and designate them as "park" toys and they are only for takign to the park. [ Reply | More ]

[ - ] So DS is 1.5, and i never expected to be in the City when he was ready for preschool so I never paid any attention to all the various options (the different privates, the G&T, the various zoned publics). But it looks like we will be living here for at least another 5-7 years so I should probably start paying attention. However when all of you talk I have no idea what the hell you are saying. I don't know what any of the abbreviations are, I don't know the buzz words (progressive, child-centered vs. traditional) or where any of these schools even are. I am a former Long Island girl, who went to my local elementary and hten to my local high school and then a respoectable Univerity of ____. I know nothing about this elite education system. WHere can I go to educate myself before I begin this process? 9 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

Don't worry about G&T etc. at this point. What you should do is look into the preschool options in your neighborhood (doesn't make sense to travel to far). There's a book that every Barnes & Nobles carries that lists them all (some websites do as well). You're not too late yet. You need to educate yourself now about what schools are out there and apply and tour in the fall for preschool admission in the fall of 2009. (Your ds will still be on the young side then for preschool, but it won't hurt to explore your options now). Where do you live? [ Reply | More ]

Well I have to get carpet for the living room dining area. I like this carpet but am afraid it will be 1. look washed out since I have a lot of natural sunlight and 2. stained easily since dd is 3 y.o. What do you think? my dh and I have both been to osteopath for various physical ailments (e.g., back problems, carpal tunnel; also I saw her when I was pg); she is an MD with training in osteopathy and takes a v holistic "whole life" view to treatment. Her name is Dr. Dawn Cieplensky, she's at 55th and Lex, # is 212-465-3175. My acupuncturist is Dr. Yoshihiro Yamaguchi, he's at around 54th and 7th, # is 212-246-7588; he also does herbal remedies I believe tho I haven't used him for that. good luck. [ Reply | More ]

I don't know what LAc title is, but acupuncture is what this guy has been trained in, it's what he does. I've been to him as has my dh and my df, we have all had very positive experiences with him. He also,FWIW, treated a well known celebrity who ran the NY marathon a few years ago. not sure why you are so doubtful of his credentials but go ahead and contact him and ask him -- he's v nice. Sorry! We found that our 3 year old had nightmares after we moved him to a bed. It did pass after 3 weeks. We have a set routine for putting him to sleep. Three stories in bed, ABC song and started to use a white noise machine. It works most of the time...but there are days. Good luck. I'm sure he will get into the habit soon. [ Reply | More ]
