dd is going to preschool this fall in the 8:30 to 3 slot/5 days. Need someone to pick her up. I really love our nanny, so what kind of situation can I work out where we can still keep her? Do people do nanny shares in this situation? [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

You could try that or you could have her do other work for you around the house, running errands etc. [ Reply | More ]

op: I'm pretty sure dh isn't going to buy paying $600 for someone to babysit 3 hours every afternoon and clean the house (which we pay $100 for now) unfortunately. I personally would go for it. [ Reply | More ]

how flexible is work situation? what about dh? because there are a lot of days off of schools, plus summer plus sick days. Go through the school calendar, add in an additional 6 sick days and then you dh will see that you are paying $600 to keep your job. [ Reply | More ]

I'm a 4 day a week freelancer, so I'm pretty flexible. But, every day i'm not working, I'm not getting paid, so the more coverage the better. [ Reply | More ]

it sounds like your dh just assumes you can cover all the vacation day, holidays, sick day, half days etc. If you can, great, but if your career will suffer, try to convince him to keep the nanny as a nanny/housekeeper. [ Reply | More ]

You could get a college student to do the PT hours, find a PT nanny, share with a SAHM who wants PT help in the early part of the day, or even split a nanny with another family with dc in preschool where you each pay 1/2 cost of FT nanny and she has 2 kids from 3-7pm (or whatever), or you could get a FT housekeeper/nanny combo [ Reply | More ]

We changed to a share situation. We added another family (1 child full time) We both save money. The nanny makes more, and there are built in playdates. Everyone's happy. [ Reply | More ]
