Not going to happen. Bonuses never evaporate all together. They can be hit, but comp follows an S-curve. There is an absolute floor. [ Reply | More ]

Can you be more specific? IB is still pretty broad. My group has been doing very well, so I expect to be flat to up from last year. Other groups are doing very poorly and will probably be down. [ Reply | More ]

It depends, if the bonus was decent last year then I think your bonus will suck this year. That's because the firms that paid well last year realize that they didn't have to to retain talent. That post about having an absolute floor is nonsense. There can be a zero bonus. It depends what department you're in and what the profitability is in that department [ Reply | More ]

Just be aware that everyone there works multiple jobs, which is necessary because salaries don't match the cost of living. My friend is a tech professional, adjunct professor and runs a consulting company. For the most part, the price of things are comparable to NYC, but salaries are about 40 percent lower. So while you are willing to work in a hotel, you would have to have other sources of income. [ Reply | More ]

friend did this - they lasted a year. everything on the island must be imported, so the prices are often worse than nyc. and, as another poster explained, the salaries aren't commensurate. check out charleston, sc or north carolina (if you want hawaii, you won't be happy with florida). Or you could try california or portland, oregon on the west coast. [ Reply | More ]

Yes, my 6 y/o has the same problem. Diagnosed with advanced bone age, and watching for other symptoms of early puberty. He/she should have kidney scan to see if adrenal gland is enlarged or has tumor, just as a precaution... there's often no obvious reason why this happens. [ Reply | More ]

[ - ] Anyone have similar issues w/3.5 yo? For most part, he is pretty easy to deal with, but he does have tendency to whine a lot when he doesn't get his way (whether it's tv, snack, wanting a playdate and not being able to have one, etc.). The other issue is that he has started to rudely confront strangers in public places, much to my mortification. For instance, if he sees a kid in line at grocery around his age/size -- or even considerably older -- he might point his finger and say "I AM GOING TO GET YOU!" He has even done this kind of thing with adults who, trying to be nice, say hi or ask him a question. I try not to draw too much attention to it right then and there as he's not that loud (it just looks bizarre) and the other party always seems more amused than offended, but I try to really emphasize the Golden Rule in this situation. Also tell him that if he does such things to strangers, people will think he's mean (or weird) and won't want to play w/him. He doesn't really seem to care, so I'm wondering if I should begin some kind of immediate consequence in these situations (and if so, what, since time-outs just don't seem to work for us). The thing is, I am really trying to be less hard on him, as I had a realization a while back that I was expecting way too much for his age. I also know that this kind of behavior is somehow related to the pirate/superhero role play he's picked up at nursery, so it's a tough one. Incidentally, he is not like this w/people he knows. Anyone btdt? Any advice is greatly appreciated (for whining as well). Thanks! 0 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

[ - ] WWYD? We've been trying to potty train my 2.9yo dd. Had a bit of success when she was 2yo, but then my ds was born and we didn't want to push her. She resisted for a while, but has pooped on the potty twice in the past ten days. Tonight, she sat on the potty for a long time with her books, but then wouldn't get off. I could see she'd pooped, but she kept insisting she hadn't and that she still had to go to the potty. After a long time, finally lifted her off the potty and then she was fine, but we had lots of tears and she seemed so sad. We really aren't pressuring her, but I'm not sure how best to proceed. Any advice? 2 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

My son was about to turn 3, and had been interested in it around 2, but lost it totally when we moved. My wife was out of town last week, so I spent a really hard three days doing nothing but potty training him. It was exhausting. I just stayed next to him all day. He pooped and peed on the floor and in his underwear, but I never put a Pull Up on him. After his successes I praised him mightily and gave him a special Curious George fruit snack. I didn't specifically say it was for poo or pee. It's been a week and with the exception of bedwetting at night, he's totally trained. [ Reply | More ]
