[ - ] In the kindergarten lottery, who gets priority: nonsiblings in district or nondistrict siblings? 2 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

In our zoned school, there is no kindergarten lottery - all zoned kids are guaranteed acceptance, and nondistrict siblings are first in line for extra spots. I guess you are talking about lottery-only schools? And in that case, it is so unclear how they are going about it right now. [ Reply | More ]

Hunter's strongest points, in my opinion, are that there is a bright group of kids and that it is a K-12 school. The elementary school has a progressive philosophy. [ Reply | More ]

It's a public school. A good public school for kids who test high enough at 3 or 4 years old. They do well on an IQ test given by a stranger without the parent in the room... Private schools use a different test, usually given at their preschool, the ERB. [ Reply | More ]

If you lived in a "Levitt" home your shingles were asbestos, if you were born before 1970's your mom's oven mitts were asbestos, if you were near cars before the mid eighties their brake pads were asbestos, etc... Asbestos when left in piece in the walls, for example, is safe. Asbestos becomes a health hazard when it is disturbed like during construction. And that sure might be a concern for some when NEST starts its renovations. That said, modern asbestos abatement is pretty safe so I would not be worried. [ Reply | More ]

np: ditto. We put our ds in a bed at 20 mos, b/c he was climbing out. If he came out, we would put a gate across, though he stopped coming out once he realized we would gate him in, so that lasted only a couple of nights. It was an easy transition actually for naptime especially, because he was still really tired and really needed a nap at that age, so it was never a struggle to keep him in bed at naptime [ Reply | More ]

i do the same thing. It's SO hard to loosen up. I'm very anal about cleanliness and things being in their place. With kids everything is everywhere! [ Reply | More ]
