well, you don't know my child and if you did you would know that he usually lets other kids push, grab do whatever they want to him, and only on the occasions where it has gotten to the point where he is pushed past his threshold has he done it. noone considers him aggressive. [ Reply | More ]

you have to be on top of him- watch his every move at first, and recognize the triggers, and pull him away before he does it. You can get books too- the one we have is called Teeth are not for Biting. And eventually this too shall pass... [ Reply | More ]

MCS is very much built on the civil rights movement. Some aspects are hyper-traditional (eg, to graduate, kids must make a meal for their entire class at the farm, complete a weaving project, take care of the animals.. the farm is part of the curriculum). But in general, they're very progressive, similar to Bank Street (and students from many of the more progressive teaching programs at Banks st and elsewhere send student teachers to MCS). I know about the social piece, but when people say progressive, they mean teaching style. MCS parents said the kids do drills for math and reading. [ Reply | More ]

wow, that's surprising. DC was there briefly (we loved it but couldn't afford to stay) and I never ever heard of drilling for anything. That seems totally the opposite of their philosophy. Maybe you're confusing it with a different school? [ Reply | More ]

CGPS is not progressive at all. It may incorporate some progressive elements into its teaching, but is not at all like the other schools on your list. You should add C&C and Little Red to your list. [ Reply | More ]

I don't understand. When they took this process over, did they not know it would be a major project and that parents would expect clarity about the whats, whens and hows? In fact, wasn't that the point -- that before there was no transparency about the process and now there would be?!! [ Reply | More ]

seems silly to me, but people can always sue. given the level of craziness among nyc parents, especially desperate ones, I wouldn't put it past them. I am sure that the doe has consulted with lawyers on how to handle this whole process though [ Reply | More ]

ah, you don't speak DOEse. They didn't specify how they define a week. Now one would think they would mean a school week, which ends Friday at 3:15, but perhaps not. My guess; they're mailing tomorrow, and you might get it in afternoon mail Friday or on Saturday. [ Reply | More ]
