OR Calm down. No one is suggesting the nanny be fired. But someone who has to monitor her blood sugar several times a day--if in fact that is what this woman is doing--could be in an advanced stage of the disease, and that would concern me. [ Reply | More ]

NP -- you can fire someone over anything if as an employer you don't fall under the umbrella of title 7 regulation. Hate when people say stupid stuff like that. Not to mention the fact that she's probably illegal and/or being paid under the table. [ Reply | More ]

I always supplemented the midnight feed so I could get 5 hours of straight sleep. Sometimes I'd wake up around 2am needing to pump (DB would still be asleep), but then my body got used to it. Worked well for us, DB was fine with both breast and bottle. [ Reply | More ]

I did. I had supply issues and we had to supplement. It was a pain sometimes but it did give us the flexibility to do certain things. Not a big deal really. Just make sure to nurse or pump enough to keep your supply up [ Reply | More ]

we chose a G&T, and it happens to be in our zoned school, as well. very very smart kids. lucked out that it is close. still would have preferred it even if we lived in a zone of a popular gen ed. I think having the smarter peer group is a good thing. [ Reply | More ]

The drawback for me for G&T programs is that they are inside schools and are often more white than the general ed programs. I prefer a good general ed school that doesn't give my child a sense of us and them. I don't think you will find a great difference between the children at PS 3 and at PS 11 G&T. That said, I'm not a fan of blended classrooms (2 ages in one group), which is what PS 3 currently has. Do you have other children? Siblings would be automatically in at a zoned school--not so at a test-in program. [ Reply | More ]

[ - ] I could use some reassurance right now. DH is out of town until August and I just got back from the dr with our dd. I took her in because her elbow had swelled up during the day, was hot to the touch and red. The dr saw a bite, but was disturbed by the fluid, so he took a sample to test (which was awful for dd,) and prescribed amoxocillan. She isn't running a fever. Does anyone else have experience with something like this? 2 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]
General Topics 06.13.08, 05:18 PM Flag

Well, if it is some sort of infection, amoxocillin will fight it. It's possible the doctor suspected lyme disease, and that's the antibiotic the prescribe (btdt but DC had a tick on leg). It must be hard to have DD ill without your DH home, good luck. [ Reply | More ]

»
They did ask if we'd been out of the country. Maybe that was what he was thinking. But would lyme disease be localized to one spot like that? Anyway, we'll have to wait for the test results to make sure the fluid isn't a drug-resistant infection. That sort of scared me, too. [ Reply | More ]

I don't think the children will be anxious about moving to a new country any more than moving to NJ. One concern will be whether than can bring all of their toys and belongings with them (not sure if you can in your case). Then they will be upset at leaving their friends. We got gmail accounts for our kids and their teachers passed out their contact information at their going away parties. I think that kind of good-bye celebration was really good, especially for our eldest (6yo). [ Reply | More ]

We have done a few international moves. The children were absolutely fine...as long as mommy and daddy were going with them, no big deal. Dh and I were much more anxious the the kids. Tell the kids it is exciting...do not let them know you are anxious or nervous. [ Reply | More ]

Sounds like you're projecting your anxiety. 4 and 5 year olds don't feel anxiety in that way. They tend to get excited about novelty. It's how you present it. [ Reply | More ]

DD was offered juice with snack a few times a week at pre-school, but never drank it, always asks for water or milk instead - she's never liked juice. apple juice has a lot of sugar and not much nutrition, but it's not poison either. [ Reply | More ]

it's about setting and maintaining limits, with consequenses for crossing the line. most offenses get 2 warnings (1 - 2 counts), then a time out for a 3rd. most serious offenses get automatic time outs. consequenses don't have to be time outs (taking away stuff also works, but parents don't get to have temper tantrums (no screaming, yelling or hitting). worked well for my 4 y/o.
