[ - ] Moving to NYC. Dh just looked at a prewar building, 5th floor apartment. It has an elevator, but it is dingy and small. I have one kid and one on the way, so we will never use the stairs. Should we take it? It is otherwise great and in our price range. Just don't love the elevator... 17 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

i am a bit claustrophobic and worried about getting stuck in elevators so this would concern me, too. is there a doorman? that would go a long way toward reassuring me. also, check if a double stroller will fit in the elevator. our p&t just barely fits in ours. [ Reply | More ]

Never heard of publics doing this; MCS does it, about 5 kids go to other kid's home, have snack, they explore their neighborhood. GREAT experience. Kids draw and write about it and they put the work in an album. Not all parents participate (not all can stay home or want to host kids) but good experience to see how other students live differently/the same. [ Reply | More ]

$600/wk for 4 days is really too much. My ds's nanny started at $550 for 50 hrs/wk, and was upped each year by $50 so that she was making $650 for 50hrs/wk. She is now PT and I pay her $15/hr. PT normally is paid more per hour. [ Reply | More ]

[ - ] OMG, an escaped killer is on the loose in California and DH is on a plane to LA. What do I do. I can't reach DH and the airline won't let me speak to the pilot and I am really worried. What if the killer comes after DH and kidnaps him and takes him on a 10 state rampage! 13 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

[ - ] i feel so worn down - dh and i have same arguments over and over - he suffers from depression and i get so tired of dealing with it - feel like i am being cheated out of a 'normal' life - worry about my dcs and hate how he snaps at them somedays. Things had been improving lately and stupid dr. told dh to decrease his meds - spent most of weekend in bed, crabby - a horrible fathers day and i just feel so sad. Sometimes i just want to leave him; other times i can't imagine my life without him. Does anyone have any advice? 7 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

I have no advice. I've lived with a man like that for 20 years. I try to focus on the things I love about him and try not to let him drag me down when he's feeling in the dumps. When I tried to be his cheerleader, it drained me completely. Now I'm like if you're going to be that way, then I'm going to go do something I want to do. [ Reply | More ]

OR here: my BIL is exactly the same way and his wife divorced him after 10 years, although she was much younger that I was when they married. She said she wanted to do it for her kids, but in her case, I think the kids suffered more from the divorce than they did from having a sometimes depressed dad. the winner in all that was actually the dad, because it forced him to get help. OP: kind of the same in my case - i don't think i would ever divorce because my dcs really love their dad and vice versa - not abusive in any way - it just sometimes really wears on me and I often feel like this on Mondays after being with him all weekend. He is on meds and constantly at dr. getting help - just not sure what else can be done. he tries and it is frustrating to him also. I unfortunatley sometimes loose my patience and that makes everything worse. [ Reply | More ]

you can't be a saint. it's very draining living with someone like that when they going through a bad spell. do the best you and cut yourself some slack when you lose it. The fact that he's trying is a big plus. My dh has gotten much better at managing his moods as he gotten older. Don't know if that is typical or not. [ Reply | More ]
