first time mom heading back to work. have a PT sitter who might become DS's full time nanny. we currently pay her $12/hr for 6-9 hrs/week. im going back to work soon, 4 days a week (need her approx 40 hrs/week). what is the average pay per week??? we offered $500/wk, 1 week of vacation of her choosing, paying her when we are away (which about 2-3 weeks), and an extra $30 a week if she will clean the apt. but she is asking for $600. yes, 40 hours, maybe a little less. from 8:30 to 6:30, but might be home between 5 and 6pm and will let her go early of course. also told her open fridge and will pay overtime if ever needed. she also gets all court/bank holidays paid/off. [ Reply | More ]

from 8:30 to 5:30 but dd is in school from 1-3 everyday so nany get that time to do what she wants. IMHO I don't think it is really fair to ask nanny to clean while they are taking care of dc's. we live on the UWS where most nanny's make more than ours so we treat her golden [ Reply | More ]

i agree, but she said she would clean when DS is napping. DS 6mos. and she knows we pay the cleaning lady to come and she offered to take that money and take their place, which is fine with us as long as she actually cleans. we have been really nice to her over the last 3 mos when she has been PT. paid her when we went away, often buy her lunch, open fridge policy, gave her flowers for mo's day, etc ... np: she knows you're a pushover -- that's why she's asking for so much. Nothing wrong with that -- I'm a pushover with my dc's nanny and she takes advantage of it. [ Reply | More ]

It sounds like you guys have a pretty good relationship. How did you find her? Do you have someone else that she has worked for that can vouch for her salary? [ Reply | More ]

i really do like her a lot, and she knows that. i found her from one of my new mom's friend's nanny. and i spoke to the family she used to work for (was with them for 5 years) but that was several years ago. she currently works PT for bd of ed at a bus aide and does some cleaning jobs, which is why the PT with us now works. to work for us 4 days, she has to leave those jobs. i was just really taken aback by her $600 request and i told her i thought that was too much, but i would talk to my husb and figure it out. i am pretty sure she really likes us too and wants the job but i dont want to do $600 to start. op: how long has yours been with you?? our DS is 6 mos, and a pretty easy baby. was hoping to build in raises at 6 mos and 12 mos and of course give her a holiday bonus. i feel like $600 to start seems high, or am i off base here??? [ Reply | More ]

If you really like her I would meet her in the middle. If you have any doubts I would continue to look because this person will be in your family for the next 5 years [ Reply | More ]

$600/wk for 4 days is really too much. My ds's nanny started at $550 for 50 hrs/wk, and was upped each year by $50 so that she was making $650 for 50hrs/wk. She is now PT and I pay her $15/hr. PT normally is paid more per hour. [ Reply | More ]

^^^ 1 week of vacation of her own choosing, paid for our vacations, whatever holidays I get. This is standard for one child. [ Reply | More ]
