I live in the 90s on the UES and friends all rave about the warm-water pool at AG. They all seemed thrilled with the instructors/results as well. This is for toddlers BTW. I don't know that much about the JCC pool or the changing facilities at either, but you could do a tour for that? I don't like the 92nd St Y pool - it's cold and very indoor pool depressing. My dc is just luckier than yours to have gotten a spot at Anderson. That is all there is to it. It is not that your dc deserves it less or that mine deserves it more. I agree, this system sucks and there is an obvious need for more schools like Anderson and NEST+m. I am sorry that your dc didn;t get your first choice but these kids are 4 and 5 years old, they will do well no matter where we choose to send them. Please, just be happy that your dc got a spot in g&T, you have a good zoned option or you have a private or Hunter spot. Ruth A. Lawrence is an authority on this. See if you find what she says about it. She tends to say that most things except the very harshest drugs (chemo, etc.) are OK. [ Reply | More ]

No matter what the news, I think the standard for business letter is "Very truly yours." definitely odd. [ Reply | More ]

This is the most apt but I think I'll have to go with "Regards" - I have to kick a family out of the preschool. So mostly it sucks for the kid. [ Reply | More ]

THIS SHOULD BE DONE IN PERSON. Not by letter. There is no proper way to close a letter when a letter is inappropriate to begin with. [ Reply | More ]

It will also be done in person, the letter is for documentation for our records and theirs. It's a coop preschool and they flaked on their obligations frequently. [ Reply | More ]

[ - ] Am weaning off Zoloft and in the past few weeks have developed eczema, something I've never had before. Anyone have similar experience? Was prescribed a steroid by MD, but we both figured it wasn't chronic (steriods shouldn't be used for protracted periods). Thoughts? Will the eczema stick around much longer after I finish weaning? 5 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

it might not be related to the Zoloft, but could be a seasonal thing. I heard that a lot of people who have never had eczema or hayfever before are getting them this year due to the heavy amount of allergens in the air. [ Reply | More ]

OP - Good point. It's really driving me nuts though. I will call MD and ask for his opinion. Unfortunately think I will have to go to a dermatologist. [ Reply | More ]

eh, first try over the counter cortisone. Get the highest strength one they offer (it's really not that high in strength -- my dermatologist told me it doesn't penetrate the skin). If that doesn't help, see a derm. [ Reply | More ]

[ - ] Why in 2008, is there still such a stigma about mental health issues? Even problems like depression and anxiety are often met with stunned silence or shock. It's really hurtful and I feel like people are judging me w/o really knowing. It's no fun knowing that people are wondering what you *MIGHT DO*. ugh 5 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

It's not like I walk up to someone and say, "Hi, I'm depressed and anxious", but when you are building a relationship, it comes up at some point. [ Reply | More ]

I don't walk up to people and say, "Hi, I'm depressed and anxious", but it comes up sometimes w/ acquaintances and when building relationships. For example, I can't tolerate large crowds. Should I always have to make up a reason why I avoid them? [ Reply | More ]

Because most people don't want to talk about something so personal. They don't know what to say, much like when someone dies. I wouldn't dwell on others' reactions, it seems to get you angry and resentful and nothing good will come of that. [ Reply | More ]

so much judgment-like there is something you can do about this. it is slowly changing (mental health parity act), but most people think it is just about snapping out of it (whether it is depression, anxiety, schizophrenia, etc) [ Reply | More ]

could be the start of teething, could be gas, could be hungry/growth spurt. agree with poster below though, no harm calling your ped if you want. [ Reply | More ]

first make sure he's not sick (feels feverish? eating pooping peeing normally?). if not sick, is he getting enough to eat? might be growth spurt and he's extra hungry? is anything calming him down at all? does it seem like he's in pain? is he arching his back during feedings? when specifically is he crying? is it only in the late afternoon/evenings? literally all day/all night? what kind of cry is it? i'd call the ped. could just be normal baby weirdness, or growth spurt, or gas or teething, but if it feels abnormal to you, i'd have him checked just to make sure he's not in pain due to something wrong. [ Reply | More ]
