[ - ] Given that PS9 G&T and Anderson are in the same building and seem to have all 99’s and sibs as well as a cross-sib admission policy, what’s the point of two separate schools? They should either get rid of the G&T and expand Anderson or combine them back to one school. 17 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

No, they shouldn't. Anderson is a K-8 with 500 kids. PS 9 is a K-5. (some would get to go to grades 6-8? Some wouldn't?) The two schools have different viewpoints on budgeting, teaching style, acceleration, enrichments, etc. etc. etc. We make good neighbors, but it's better this way. [ Reply | More ]

Also...the G&T at PS 9 is what brings PTA money into the school. To remove it from 9 at this point would devastate the Gen Ed financially. [ Reply | More ]

I don't think this is true any more, there would be a hit for sure but a lot of gen ed parents contribute substantially to the school these days. [ Reply | More ]

PS9 is a D3 zoned school with G&T program, while Anderson is a city-wide K-8 school. I don't see how you could possibly combine them at this point, they have grown so much apart. [ Reply | More ]

the school is similar in many ways. they have common origins. anderson has only been on its own for a brief period relative to the entire history. its MS is new, as well. ps9 must take into account all of its students, gifted and otherwise, and so has special considerations having to do with a less homogeneous community. otherwise they are very very similar. PS9 is a D3 zoned school. If they drop G&T they will take more kids from lottery instead like PS87 does. Given the overcrowding at PS199 and space issues starting at PS87, there is no way DOE would give up the spots for Anderson. [ Reply | More ]

I started at $12 (one kid) an hour and am now up to $17/hr (2 kids) 4 years later. I always treated it like a pro-rated fulltime job - I gave her 2 weeks prorated vacation of her choice (4 days) plus paid her for any days we were away or otherwise canceled. I gave paid sick days after 6 mos (but she never used them), no personal days. I also gave her paid days off when her days fell on certain national holidays. I strongly recommend that you write all of this up in a Welcome Letter so that she has something to refer to over the year [ Reply | More ]

Wow. Your marital relationship sounds very odd. If you have insurance, why doesn't he? If you divorce, it is very likely that he will sue you for custody and child support and possibly family support as well. [ Reply | More ]

If the lease/mortgage is in your name, just have the locks changed while he is out. If not, stop paying the rent/mortgage. If it's joint, then you need to negotiate. [ Reply | More ]

[ - ] Talk to me about birth control. What would you do, pill, IUD, diaphragm? I need to make a decision in the next week before my next period. Not married but dating someone exclusively and I am too nervous having all this unprotected sex. 11 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

Nuvaring. Put it in for 3 weeks and then take it out for 1 week and get your period. I love it because I always forgot to take the pill. [ Reply | More ]
