we toured last yr. principal really looking to add white families-is disappointed that as neighborhood changes, families sending kids elsewhere. they, as of last fall's k class, still took variances for kids from outer boroughs to fill spaces in gen ed and g&t. we were impressed overall-pleasantly surprised. we know families there who have had mixed experiences but people are pretty happy [ Reply | More ]
General Topics 06.20.08, 11:18 AM Flag

Your fact are not correct. As of last year, no variances allowed for G&T or gened. Also not true that principal is "looking to add white families." She has no jurisdiction over this as zoning and G&T acceptances are DOE-based. She of course wants everyone in zone to go to her school but she really can't do anything about that other than appeal to the white families by making the curriculum more progressive. It's pretty arrogant for you to label children as seemingly mediocre when you don't have any professional basis to determine a child's academic potential. If you have a very bright kid, at that age it's a bit of a crapshoot whether or not your dc will happen to test well on that particular day (assuming that you have not been tutoring dc on test-taking skills). I am from the UK and it is pretty common over there. If you are having a straightforward pg it is even encouraged by med staff in some areas. [ Reply | More ]

2 weeks is standard. You've only been there 4 weeks - no need for 4 weeks notice. [ Reply | More ]
