OR: I obviously can't vouch for your experience. But in my own experience through 5 yrs of a very coveted G&T which is housed with a very good gen ed, have found it to be a hit-or-miss experience. Most of it has to do with how lucky you were with the teachers, which tended to be better in the gen ed classes w/ less turnover. [ Reply | More

It's pretty arrogant for you to label children as seemingly mediocre when you don't have any professional basis to determine a child's academic potential. I usually have found, professionally (I'm a teacher) that some of the most gifted students don't show it to adults outside school - almost as though they know they are different and are uncomfortable that it might make them unacceptable. If you have a very bright kid, at that age it's a bit of a crapshoot whether or not your dc will happen to test well on that particular day (assuming that you have not been tutoring dc on test-taking skills). Not doing well on the test does not necessarily mean your dc is less bright that most of the kids there- just means dc was not particularly lucky that day. [ Reply | More
