[ - ] Has anyone gone sailing with an infant? My DD is 6 months and we own a 36 foot sailboat which we keep on a mooring. DD has life vest and we have a dinghy, but I'm still nervous of course about safety, but also about keeping DD occupied and happy. There is not much room for swings, bouncy chairs, etc... we took dd on il's boat when she was about that age. it's very hard. hard to entertain them, hard to hold on to a baby with a life jacket, she HATED the life jacket and screamed the whole time, hard to keep her from getting sunburned. [ Reply | More ]

Ugh...I know! DD is not easy, sun is enemy - plus 2 and 1/2 hour drive to get there! But, DH is crazy about boat and hate to end what used to be such a fun time for us. Friends (with out kids) urging me to fit baby into our life, instead of the other way around and baby will adjust...is that fair?? Right now, find myself dreading the weekends, or praying for rain! We went out on my sister's boat a few times when DS was that age. I can't say it was terribly enjoyable. He hated the lifejacket, and there was no place to safely put him down. Smaller boat though, you may be more comfortable on yours. [ Reply | More ]

depends. mostly, kids need to apply to middle schools, as they aren't affiliated with any particular elementary schools. some schools (anderson, nest, hunter) have their own middle/HSs, and with rare exception, kids are automatically promoted. I know many do not believe this but what the DOE this year is actually trying to build up the gen ed in zoned schools. I know this has helped in my zoned school, children that in previous years would have been accpeted to the program did not make the cut off and will be attending our zoned school instead of going the G&T class. This year the DOE really messed up alot but I can see where this process will eventually build up the local zoned schools [ Reply | More ]

[ - ] In Southern NJ, the parents all tend to hold their children back a year if they have a Summer-Fall b-day. A teacher in my neighborhood said we would notice the difference if we didn't hold our dd back. She is an August baby. in retrospect, DS's bris means more to me than DHs aufruf, but at the time, it was an important event. If op did not support her sister, i understand the sister not wanting to be there for her.
