Given that PS9 G&T and Anderson are in the same building and seem to have all 99’s and sibs as well as a cross-sib admission policy, what’s the point of two separate schools? They should either get rid of the G&T and expand Anderson or combine them back to one school. [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

No, they shouldn't. Anderson is a K-8 with 500 kids. PS 9 is a K-5. (some would get to go to grades 6-8? Some wouldn't?) The two schools have different viewpoints on budgeting, teaching style, acceleration, enrichments, etc. etc. etc. We make good neighbors, but it's better this way. [ Reply | More ]

Also...the G&T at PS 9 is what brings PTA money into the school. To remove it from 9 at this point would devastate the Gen Ed financially. [ Reply | More ]

I don't think this is true any more, there would be a hit for sure but a lot of gen ed parents contribute substantially to the school these days. [ Reply | More ]

we'd better hope so considering that we will be down one G&T in the fall. [ Reply | More ]

PS9 is a D3 zoned school with G&T program, while Anderson is a city-wide K-8 school. I don't see how you could possibly combine them at this point, they have grown so much apart. [ Reply | More ]

you are ridiculous, and typical of the anderson parents trying to hard to emphasize an ID for anderson. I have dcs in both schools, and they could not be more similar. [ Reply | More ]

the school is similar in many ways. they have common origins. anderson has only been on its own for a brief period relative to the entire history. its MS is new, as well. ps9 must take into account all of its students, gifted and otherwise, and so has special considerations having to do with a less homogeneous community. otherwise they are very very similar. I was just making fun of you for answering a simple yes or no question with an overly complex response that didn't even answer the original question. [ Reply | More ]

^^^I think that the DOE should find a new space for Anderson -- a stand alone school if possible -- so that Anderson could offer more seats and have a proper middle school. This would benefit ps9 as well because it could grow its G&T program, which is the most popular one in D3. [ Reply | More ]

Given the overcrowding in many parts of the city, I can't imagine new space for Anderson is high on the priority list. [ Reply | More ]

ITA. Wouldn't THAT create an uproar!! Take a high-performing school that's already in a great neighborhood, full of MC and UMC families and give THAT school a new space, while kids in other nabes suffer with real overcrowding. [ Reply | More ]

has anyone confirmed that there is a "cross-sib admissions policy?" Where is this posted? [ Reply | More ]
