I started at $12 (one kid) an hour and am now up to $17/hr (2 kids) 4 years later. I always treated it like a pro-rated fulltime job - I gave her 2 weeks prorated vacation of her choice (4 days) plus paid her for any days we were away or otherwise canceled. I gave paid sick days after 6 mos (but she never used them), no personal days. I also gave her paid days off when her days fell on certain national holidays. I strongly recommend that you write all of this up in a Welcome Letter so that she has something to refer to over the year [ Reply | More
